SO, yeah, hello. I know I haven't been on here much, on account of first contracting tonsillitis, then a sinus infection and then a deluge of uni work to catch up on.
Secondly, fandom has been really quiet so even when I do get online there isn't a lot going on. That's fair, considering Skins is this crazy, stupid little show with really shippable women but only airs for two months out of the year. I'm keenly looking forward to skins big bang. Unfortunately I will not be participating this year, on account of massive writers block. I had a few ideas but they all whittled away the sicker I got and then when I got better I spent most of my time writing either newspaper articles or radio scripts. Speaking of, have you ever heard yourself on the radio? It's awfully traumatic, considering I have a lisp which almost rivals Meg Prescott. I WAS NOT AWARE OF THIS, NO BODY TOLD ME. I'm getting my wisdom teeth out when I go back to Sydney and hopefully that'll help my speech, because have you ever heard a news anchor on the radio with a lisp before? Like, Michelle Norris of NPR sounds like goddamn Fran Drescher, but at least she doesn't have a lisp. I'm gonna sort this shit out because no way is a minor speech impediment going to stop me taking over the Australian airways.
ANYWAY, stuff.
SKINS USA LOOKS AWESOME AND IS AMAZING AND I CANNOT WAIT. Numerous reasons, kids
1) It's not going to be a shot for shot remake. Thank Meg. It looks like Tony, Chris and somebody else will have an episode which almost mirrors the original material. Which is a shame, but even then, I will be intrigued to examine how the actors interpret the same script differently. Eventually it will branch off into its own storyline, which will be interesting, because how I see it, it'll be season one, AU. Everybody waxes lyrical about how amazing season one was, but there were a few major misteps which I'moptimistic they'll correct this time around. There won't be a Russian episode, for one.
2) I like Americans. Maybe I prefer Brits, and nobody is as attractive as the French (I once had a very surreal conversation with my dad about this, and we both admitted French girls =hottest ever) but I got a real kick hearing skins dialouge coming out with cute US accents. The new Tony is so...AMERICAN. Aw. Already I find it hard to confuse him with Nic, and I want to view this as eventually a stand alone series, so this helps. So, yeah, the USness of it is actually an advantage, rather than a hindrance for me.
3) Tea. I kinda want to say something dirty here. Insert your own dirty-minded thoughts about what you would do with her in a darkened room somewhere (except for Viv, who only imagines fucking girls when she is asleep. Hope your subconscious is really kinky, Viv-cakes)

4)the fact the writers already get the irreverence of Skins. Those "hater" pictures are genuis. Plus, Bryan Elsley is both experienced and talented. Yes, of course they want to make money, television is foremost a business, but Skins also has a definite reputation to keep and it is in Bryan's interest to make Skins US as boundary challenging as its UK counterpart. People watch skins precisely for this. Even though it is airing in the more conservative US climate, what makes Skins for me is its depiction of ostracized youth. Be it homos, kids with eating disorders, kids with Aspergers or homeless kids, and they do it (usually) without any preaching. So, yeah, if Bryan continues this tradition, and I thnk he will, Skins USA will be awesome.
5) The fic. Come on, people- Emily/Tea. It would be hot. Or, Emily/Naomi/Tea. Which would be hotter. Like, maybe Naomily go to the US and want to find a third to spice things up? Somebody get on that, please.
6) Morgana's recaps. Oh, I know you're not doing anything else better with your time, M-Le-Gay. PLUS, I mean, I know you think Tea is hot, so you should do it.
In other news- I still love Naomily something fierce. But Skins missed a wonderful opportunity...
Not gonna lie,people, The Last Bus is my favorite unseen. Hey, it's not my fault the Naomily unseen was lame and Katie FUCKING Fitch didn't even get one. Plus, it's nice to see Frook interacting as friends, and not as strained exes who desperately wish they could be back together (ie-whole of season three and four)
Their love would have been epic. Plus, due to all the little snippets of fiction I've read of them lately, I know find them this really tragic pairing who couldn't get their shit together in time before JB stepped in. I dunno, I just love them all of a sudden. Thank you fan fic writers. I have a skins fic rec list I want to put up and there are some all-time classic fics with them as a pairing, so look out for that.
