Great Hall, the professor's table herr_edward September 16 2008, 02:40:02 UTC
Edward knew something was wrong that day, he just didn't know what. Little did he expect, though, to hear screams erupting from seemingly everywhere around the castle. Naturally, his first reaction was simply 'Death Eaters', but not even he could deny that he was in somewhat of a state of panic.

And what kind of adult was he? Edward suddenly became rather angry with himself for being a poor role model. He had to remain calm, for the students' sake! Eyes alight with anxiety, Edward stood up and reached for the wand from inside his jacket pocket.

"Damn Death Eaters..." he cursed under his breath. "Calm... We have to remain calm."

But what good was that going to do? What could he say to the student and faculty body that would calm them? Nothing.

Claire rose from her chair at the Professor's table, knocking over her goblet of pumpkin juice, which stained the clean, white tablecloth with a vibrant orange. She, along with all the Professors, knew what was happening immediately. Her priority, her concern, fell with the children. "Edward," she said, turning to him, just a few seats away, "get the children out of here."

She ran to the tables, getting the students that were too stunned to move to get on their feet. "Up," she snapped at 3 kids at the Hufflepuff table and her usual cool tone seemed to whip their attention back into focus. "Run to your common rooms now. Don't stop, unless you're helping a friend seek shelter. Go, now."

Edward's gaze remained on Claire for awhile, even after she got up and began giving orders to a few students at the Hufflepuff table. "R-Right..."

Claire, get yourself out of here! Please, please, please get yourself somewhere safe!

Edward finally turned away, strolling hastily to the Ravenclaw table, nodding his head towards the doors of the Great Hall. "Get yourselves back to your common room, all right? Run fast, and do not stop."

He glanced another time at Claire, making sure that nothing had happened to her. What was he supposed to do now? Clearing his throat, Edward made a few glances around the Hall, making sure nothing too big had happened yet. He hurried to another spot at the Ravenclaw table where a few students were mortified about the attacks.

"Go back to your common room, now!"

Where was the Minister? Of course, he was missing from supper on this most convenient of nights! Where could he be, Sorrows' brain taunted him.

Out in a mask, came the short reply, killing his own students."Edward," Sorrows gave the man a stern look. He was the only Order member currently in the room, was he? No better time to take control, even if it was just for the old man. "Edward, I need you secure the premises-- find out how they're getting in! They can't possibly be..." he stopped. Yes, why yes, they could ( ... )

Claire whipped her head around to listen to Sorrows closely. He was the closest thing they had to a saviour in the room in the absence of Dumbledore.

Dumbledore, she thought with an angry snarl. Where was he? How could he have let all of this happen, was the need for secrecy greater than the need to protect his students?

She helf her wand aloft and nodded at Sorrows, shooting Edward a glimpse of something close to worry. It was hard to tell because it lasted only for a second before she twsited her head back around to where the danger was coming from.

"Are we aiming to kill or stun?" It was an important question to ask.

Edward turned to Sorrows when he heard the man call his name. The man was respectable, and he most likely knew what to do in these kinds of situations. There was no time for arguing now, so he did exactly as he was told.

"Right, I'll do that," he called to the older professor with a nod of his head.

Almost shyly, Edward then turned to Claire, giving her one of his sternest looks. He had to be fast, but the words were dying in his mind!

Why can't I say what I want to say...? Claire, I...

"Claire," he began, stammering a bit. "Be careful, won't you?"

Not knowing what else to do, he gave both Claire and Sorrows one parting glance before finding a way out of the Great Hall. Only after he left the doors did he think that that might have been the last chance he had to say what he wanted, and he couldn't even get the words out.

Sorrows couldn't help but feel a sting in his heart when he saw that look in Edward's eyes at Claire. But he knew it was simply something he could never contend with.

But bad backs didn't matter right now.

If you both do make it through, Edward, I wish you two hundred fat babies.

Claire's voice caught him. He gave her a stern look.

"There should be no question in your mind," he said, just to make sure it was clear. They fought to kill. When the lives of the students were in danger, there was not getting around that.

He threw open the doors of the foyer and marched on.

She gave him a sharp nod. "Good." There was no mistaking the viciousness in her tone, nor the craving of violence in her eyes. Not only was she eager to defend the lives of her students, but to extract revenge on the same organisation that killed her parents. That tore her family apart.

She held her wand at the ready, the death curse already waiting patiently on the tip of her tongue.

The death eaters were going to rue the day they tried to hurt innocent children.

With his best girl by his side, Sorrows proceeded forward, down the length of the Great Hall. The doors flew open with only the slightest nod of his staff, revealing the terrible scene outside.

"Good luck, my girl," he said in a calm voice to Claire, before they both dove into the thick of the battle.

Sorrows was unusually graceful in battle, dodging this way and that as if he had had no handicap, avoiding curses and hexes aimed their way with inches to spare.

A few students seemed to be lurking behind one of the pillars. Sorrows didn't have time to recognize their faces, although he did see a boy and a girl kneeling over the apparently lifeless body of another boy.

"Get out of here!" he screamed at the girl and the boy, although whether or not they heard him was not apparent.
