Without telling Ephram, I hopped a plane back to Iowa. Nothing was really going write for him. Whatever had gone down between him and Garret was history - he wasn't really speaking to me - and I went to talk to our parents. They should accept their son. It's modern times. But, our dad. He wasn't buying it - he got up to leave, ready to wash his hands of the entire situation when I blurted out something about a commitment ceremony and how they couldn't possibly miss their son's wedding, could they?
The lie was easy and quick and I saw the look on mom's face before dad left the room.
I hadn't heard from them for three weeks -- and now they're in town.
