Cole had spent another fruitless day searching the Underworld for more information about Anton or a spell to restore Phoebe. Bela had her issues (a number of them, even she would admit that to herself), but she had enough integrity to make sure she fulfilled her bargains.

Which, right now, meant passing on a message from a dead woman to her demon husband.

Her business was never boring.

She approached the address Phoebe had given her and run the bell.

Cole heard the doorbell and wearily got up and walked around to the other side of the house. He recognized Bela from Phoebe's class. Probably coming to check on her teacher or something. "Phoebe's not here," he said.

That got Cole's attention. "What?" he said. "You talked to her? Where?" Had to be Phillipa, not Phoebe, but she may have been careless enough to send him a clue to stopping her.

Sam slipped out onto the porch later in the evening and lit up a cigarette. Under the circumstances he didn't think Cole could give him too much of a hard time about it, right?

Cole had returned to sitting, but he didn't feel as gloomy now after his conversation with Bela. "Phoebe sent a message," he said quietly.

Sam's head snapped up and he began to laugh quietly as surprise and a touch of relief mingled with frayed nerves. Granted, the sound was a little hysterical, but . . .

"Spirit board," Cole said. "A girl in her demonology class." He left out the part about having to owe Bela a favor. "We can save her. But I don't know how much time we have."
