Title: Becoming Gwen
Rating: PG-13
Characters, Jack & Ianto, Gwen
Warnings: Humor at the expense of Gwen.
Notes: For the Harlequin Challenge at
flashfic_hub.
Disclaimers: I should own Torchwood and its characters. I'd do a damn sight better job of caring for them than those pillocks.

"Please Captain, we must not speak such things aloud," Gwyneth Cooper whispered breathlessly from behind her lace fan. Even though her simple muslin day dress covered well, the low scooped front and the dark green silk of her Spencer made the flush of her face and bosoms readily apparent. Captain Jack Harkness was a known rake amongst the ton, but he rarely made such an overt proposition to one of his own station.

He knelt quickly at her feet, the rough corduroy of his breeches rubbing against her leg sending thrills up her spine. His deep blue frock coat, so daring for a military man, scraping her arm lightly. "Dearest Gwyneth, I ask only for the smallest of favours; just a single kiss to hold me during the coming months of hardship." He rose slightly, the eccentrically tied cravat about his neck drawing one's eyes to his chiseled jaw and piercing blue eyes. "One kiss to keep me warm during the coldest and darkest of nights."

She was lost in the bottomless oceans of his eyes as the fan slowly slid from her face and down her bodice, she gasped out, "Of course my deepest love..."

"Gwen? Gwen! Wake up!" Ianto prodded at her from the front seat.

Gwen startled awake, the Mills & Boon novel falling from her hands as she straightened in the back seat of the SUV, "What? I'm awake, I'm awake." She looked around frantically, trying to regain her bearings. Jack was already climbing out of the driver's seat while Ianto was looking at her curiously from the passenger seat. The drive back from Rhyl had been a long one, but the aliens that had landed were pacifists and Jack was already retrieving the glowing orb they gifted Torchwood with from the rear of the SUV. "So, home safe?"

Ianto seemed to be trying to keep a smirk from escaping, "Yup. Smooth flying, considering how Jack drives." Ianto finally let a bit of the smile show, "Why don't you head on home. Jack and I can take care of the reports and cover up." He opened the SUV door and climbed out, then opened the door for her as well, "Since it was such a long night, Jack said it would be fine if you wanted to take the morning off. Sleeping in the SUV isn't the most relaxing thing." Gwen gave him a quick smile and headed towards her car, but Ianto called out. "Oh, Gwen? Don't forget your book." He held out the Mills & Boon Historical Romance that she'd bought before they started the journey back to Cardiff.

She took the book quickly, trying to hide the flush of embarrassment creeping up her cheeks, "Thanks. See you in the afternoon then."

He gave a slight nod as she hastily climbed behind the wheel of her car and sped away.

Ianto wandered into the Hub and waited for the blast door to close behind him as he looked around the underground lair. He was still smiling as he worked his way over to the kitchenette and started to brew coffee for himself and Jack. A slow grumble began to form in the back of his throat, and unable to contain it any longer, Ianto began laughing loudly. His mirth filled the space and was answered by the crowing of the pterodactyl as she made lazy circles near the roof. His laughter so overwhelmed him that tears streamed from his eyes uncontrolled and hiccups began to become interspersed with the chuckles as he slowly calmed himself. He was still laughing lightly when heavy foot falls drew his attention.

"So, I take it you didn't explain the globe, then?" Jack smiled at his still chuckling lover. Ianto couldn't even form words and merely shook his head. Jack smiled and stepped closer, wrapping his arms around Ianto as Ianto's arms fell naturally about his waist. "Probably for the best, it's safely locked in a shielded container now." He placed a kiss on Ianto's forehead before letting go and taking Ianto's hand to pull him towards Jack's quarters. "Though she might figure it out once you name it?"

Ianto's chuckles began again as he gasped out, "But Dream Screen has such a ring to it!" Jack's returning laugh echoed around the small sleeping quarters as he pulled Ianto close.

"Dearest Ianto, just one kiss to keep me warm during the coldest and darkest nights?" Jack grinned.

Ianto smirked as he slowly sank to his knees in front of Jack, "Of course, my deepest love. Let's make sure the kiss is memorable."
