PART SEVEN "Frankie! Don't dart off, this place is a maze and I'm not going to go searching for you!" Jack was taking long strides following Franklin as he rushed down the hallways and corridors of the TARDIS. Jack stop to rest a hand on the wall, "Make sure we end up in the library, okay sweetheart?" Jack felt the tingle run down his spine as the TARDIS agreed to make sure the boy didn't get lost. Jack quickly lost track of his son, but didn't worry knowing the TARDIS would look after him. He turned the corner and ran into Martha Jones, standing firm with her arms crossed, "Martha! Wondered where you'd gone. We're headed to the library, figured Frankie couldn't get in too much trouble surrounded by books- they're a genetic weakness apparently he inherited from Ianto." Jack gave her one of his big smiles, then let it fade as her expression didn't change. He huffed, "What?"
Martha shifted forward, "Why didn't you ever tell me that mainframe is a TARDIS? I can't believe you kept that from me, and how can you keep it from the Doctor? Another child of Gallifrey would excite him- he wouldn't be so alone."
Jack moved into a more professional stance, arms cross and legs slightly spread, "It didn't concern you, and she didn't want him to know." Jack frowned, "And sorry, but you came from UNIT and then went back to them- I still don't trust them not to make a weapon of the technology." He walked past her, stuffing his hands in his pockets, "And he would just try taking her away thinking he knew best- and she doesn't want to go!"
"He wouldn't. He doesn't always try to take things away; and I'd never let UNIT do something like that to Tosh." Martha was running to catch up when Jack spun around and stared at her incredulously.
"You're kidding right? We're talking about the Doctor here. He disabled my vortex manipulator and the teleport circuits- twice- because he doesn't think I can be trusted not to make a hash of things; but any time he needs it he fixes it and makes use of it. You really don't know him at all do you? He'd take Tosh away because he thinks he knows best- and you know what? He doesn't." Jack stopped for a moment and frowned then quickly sprayed something in Martha's face, catching her by surprise as she fainted in his arms, "And now you won't remember anything about it."
Branwen blanched at Ianto's words, "You're kidding. That's the guy that." She stopped speaking, not wanting to revisit the stories she'd heard from her parents and others.
"Willaim. He has an early manipulator- they weren't affected." River Song input several commands into the control interface and a new voice broadcast through the building.
"Security level zero breach. This facility will self destruct in sixty seconds, fifty-nine, fifty-eight..." The computer voice countdown continued and River pushed them through the doorway.
"Hurry up, we've got to get out of the building before it dusts itself and everyone in it." Ianto and Branwen were close on her heels with guns drawn, the Doctor following along trying to remind them of the guards they'd locked up. "They'll be out by now; the self destruct disables security stations." She kept pressing forward as interior doors opened automatically, "Hurry up - we just need to get."
"Hello there red, now what have you and your little friends done here."
Ianto didn't think twice, he fired three rapid shots at the voice, causing John Hart to spin and duck around the corner. Ianto yelled, "Keep going- I'll take care of him!" He kept the firing up hitting as close to Hart as he could without killing him as the others finally cleared the exit. Ianto stopped firing and yelled, "If you don't want to be dust, I suggest you get the hell out of here- quickly."
Jack carefully lowered Martha onto a bed in one of the many rooms of the TARDIS, pulling a blanket over her and smoothing it down. He felt the buzzing concern of the TARDIS like a wasp in his ear, "She'll be fine. It's just Retcon in aerosol form, she'll lose about an hour of memory which is more than enough to protect Tosh." The buzz moved and was joined by a distinct feeling of frustration. Jack put his hand on the wall and sighed, "I know you could have taken care of it for me, but it's my duty to protect her. You know what he's like," Jack smiled as the image of a hamster running wild was projected into his head. He looked back at Martha, noticing that a cold cup of herbal tea and a book with a page marker were now sitting on the bed side table before rubbed his hand along the wall, "Thank you."
Jack slipped out of the room and headed for the library where he'd sent Franklin, he could hear the TARDIS buzzing in his head, "It's better for her this way. That sort of knowledge has a way of slipping out in the end and imagine what UNIT would do- it would be worse than the Time Agency." The TARDIS continued to fret in the back of his mind, "Oh, I know she can protect herself; I just want to keep them off the grass for as long as I can." He finally reached the library door and peaked around the door.
