Best Music of the 00’s
I'll admit, its not that different from some of the music on the
Top 200 Pitchfork list, I thought it was a good list minus all the artists I never heard of before.
With the music industry dying and fragmenting, it will be interesting to see what kind of list would look like in 2019.
20. Neil Young - Greendale - Not his best album, but this record was interesting for how far Neil took the concept record to include not only a book, but also a movie, and performers to act out the album while he played the entire album start to finish before playing a few classic songs in an encore. It pissed off fans but I thought it was incredible.
19. Neko Case - Fox confessor brings the flood
18. Sigur Ros - ( )
17. White Stripes - Elephant
16. Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Fever to tell
15. New Pornographers - Mass Romantic
14. Johnny Cash - American V: A Hundred Highways - Sure ‘Hurt’ was supposed to be the epic epitaph, but this record had some great moments.
13.Gorillaz - Demon Days - The last section of the record is beautiful.
12. J Dilla - Donuts
11. Ghostface Killah - Fishscale - Ghostface delivered the best hip-hop album of this decade I think. ‘9 Milli Brothers’ is one of my favourite Wu-Tang songs featuring one of O.D.B.’s final appearances in a very fitting and triumphant way. The whole record is pretty solid Ghostface. I’m glad Kanye isn’t on my facebook to tell me otherwise, his records were not bad though.
10. Sleater-Kiney - One Beat - A very decent post 9/11 protest album.
9. Songs: Ohia - Magnolia Electric Co. - The album had a lot of heart and had kind of like a modern Neil Young thing going on.
8.Godspeed you! Black Emperor - Yanqui U.X.O. - Its what the end of the world sounds like, musically. Was very good listening around the start of the Iraq war in 2003 when it seemed like a very bad idea.
7. Stufjan Stevens - Illionoise
6. Arcade Fire - Funeral
5. Low - Things we lost in the fire: An album that is very emo and amazing. Low made some lovely songs on this record and its perfect for a long, cold winter.
4. Modest Mouse - Moon & Antarctica: What a decent masterpiece of a rock record this one is. Some really stand out tunes here, though the whole album is solid. Really dig Life like weeds, Stars are projectors, Tiny cities made of ashes.
3. Elliott Smith - From a Basement on a Hill: Great music to listen to on a emo sad day, haha. 'See you in heaven' would have been a nice addition if he finished recording a vocal track. I guess it’s fitting that there were no recorded lyrics.
2. Wilco - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot - Great record, the sonic weight made this gold. Love Ashes of American Flags and Poor Places the most.
1. Radiohead - Kid A
It can never stop feeling cliché to talk about how amazing Radiohead is and how much of a masterpiece this record is. It also feels like a bold act to say it is...*gasp* not the best album of this decade! Shame!
Ummm, nah, its still the best. In Rainbows was also quite good.
Also was disappointed the Nirvana Box Set wasn't filled with endless new material. I guess Kurt Cobain was no 2 Pac.
