Best TV shows of the 00's

Oct 13, 2009 15:08

As many of you know, I have a lot of time on my hands at work. Probably too much free time. No classes this week or the first 2 days of next week. Do I get to work from home? Nope. Do I get to leave early, hells no!

Since I have too much free time and can't go anywhere, I might as well do what I love to do. Making lists. And since its 2009 and this decade is almost over, I might as well make a list of all of my favourite things.

So here is part 1: Best TV shows

Warning: I did not see, hear, or read everything this decade, so I may have missed something amazing. Please do ridicule me if this list sucks.

Dramas:

10. House MD: House, I guess would kick off the top 10. He's a cranky doctor that calls everyone idiots, which is pretty sweet. Though, its good, I'm sure I've missed seeing something better.

9. Big Love: An OK show about religious insanity set in Utah.

8. Dexter: My favourite TV actor Michael C Hall gets his own TV show as a serial killer that murders other killers. So instead of simply being creepy, charismatic, burying people, and having a secret he can later revel, he does all those and kills people...but should probably not other people about his secret.

7. Weeds: A very accurate show about California.

6. Six Feet Under: This show had some serious problems. The last two seasons had some real stinkers, and Nate got super annoying. But the first two seasons were superb and exposed how creepy corporations can really be. Plus, Michael C Hall.

5. West Wing: I didn't really see the whole series, but I love politics and loved this.

4. The Wire: Definitely the smartest show this decade, took a really interesting look at the drug trade. Though, could have taken how Vancouver deals with these issues into account in the 3rd season.

3. The Sopranos: Gotta love the mafia, it makes great materials for movies and TV. Though, there could have been a few more hits for my liking, it was amazing and TV would have sucked more probably this decade without showing that TV can be sophisticated and complex and not necessarily be a crappy reality TV show or a sitcom with a laugh track.

2. Lost: Sure some characters are basic archetypes and there are some things off about the show. But its pretty awesome still. Can't wait for the final season.

1. Battlestar Galactica: This show had everything perfect. Awesome characters, set in space, space battles, heart, took on challenging issues and storylines, genocidal robots that largely succeed, Bill Adama, etc. Not a better sci-fi show ever. The ending could have been slightly better, but that's a minor point.

Comedies:

10. The Office - The awkwardness of David Brent!

9. Garth Merenghi's Darkplace - The Scotch Mist!

8. Futurama - Bender! Touching but funny stories!

7. 30 Rock - Alec Baldwin and Tina Fey!

6. Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia -Nightman, fighter of the Dayman, plus Charlie's life.

5. Curb your Enthusiasm - Seinfeld Part 2!

4. South Park - Too many good things to name.

3. Arrested Development - Tobias!

2. Daily Show - George Bush imitations!

1. Trailer Park Boys - Fuckin' Lahey.
