Somehow I missed reading Anne Frank's diary in High School. Perhaps its because 'Night' by Elie Wiesel (another classic book about the holocaust) was paired with some book about exisentialism and the holocaust by my Grade 12 English teacher. Though, that book was good too

dude did i tell you about reading it in 1st year english at ubc. we had these fucking discussion groups and we got graded on them. the grade applied to the entire group, but the catch was that every session someone else was the group's spokesperson. one week, our question was about the editing of the diary and the impact this might have had on the way the story was presented. our dude got up and honestly said

IT WOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER IF ANNE FRANK WAS A BOY BECAUSE THEN SHE COULD FIGHT THE NAZIS

a comment he only upstaged when we discussed maya angelou and he declared

MORE BLACK PEOPLE SHOULD BE WRITERS LIKE MAYA ANGELOU THAN CRIMINALS
