So, I had a nice relaxing weekend of reading things and taking up with the game of FF7 I started a while ago - got from the top of Shinra Tower to Costa del Sol and picked up Yuffie on the way because why not, I like her. I am probably going to end up grinding ridiculously this run around just because I want to use some of the characters I don't use as much, like Barret and Cait Sith, but I'd feel bad if I didn't keep Tifa pretty high level and I really like trying to get all the limit breaks (yes, even Aeris's, though I think I only managed it once) and basically - I don't know, I just like playing the game a lot.

Also I guess new Doctor Who happened?

I was pleasantly surprised by the new episode! I mean, the plot held basically no water and was kind of silly, and I didn't care about Amy and Rory's drama at all, but I loved seeing Daleks again and I liked Oswin a lot. I wish she could have come along to be the first Dalek companion, that would have been amazing. Perhaps one day I shall write it... but probably not. *stares at pile of ficdrafts*

Oh, I kind of wish I'd recorded the episode so I could watch the beginning again, because it seemed like it was set on Skaro and OMG SKARO. *_________* Which makes me wonder if the person who was Dalek-ized at the beginning was actually a Thal, because OMG THALS, it'd be so great to have stuff with Skaro and the Thals again. Although - shouldn't they all be destroyed in the Time War? Pretty sure that was a thing. OH WELL WHAT IS CONTINUITY, nothing that Doctor Who cares about that's for sure.

Next week looks like the worst excesses of Moffat's id run amuck and will probably be terrible, but I guess I'll watch it anyway.

On the book side of things, I re-read the first three Courtney Crumrin books (are there any others? I hope so, I should find out) and remembered how much I adore Aloysius Crumrin. And Skarrow. And am pretty fond of Courtney herself, horrible child that she is. I also read the Deathworld trilogy by Harry Harrison on something of a whim, and it was an odd read - sort of nostalgic, although I hadn't actually read the books before. They're definitely the sort of SF that I would have eaten up with a spoon in late elementary school/middle school, but reading them now there were a lot of things I side-eyed... An interesting read, though.
