Due to an inability to think about anything else, I am going to ramble about Naruto, but mostly stupid Uchihas, so if you are not a fan, you should definitely skip this post.
So I had a dream last night where I was reading the most amazing Itachi fic, but of course all the best details are gone now because dreams are stupid like that. Mostly I remember that it was called "The Chase," it was in several parts but they were all short, the rest of the clan was alive, Itachi was hunting someone down - oh and Sasuke either didn't exist or had been murdered. It was hard to tell because the fic itself was kind of artsy and confusing, but in an excellent way. ... and now I kind of want to write it, if I could figure out the general outline better and what was going on, but I know I'd never do it justice. D:
A FUN PAST-TIME: providing internal monologue for Itachi prior to the reveal. For example, not pictured in this page is A GIANT FACEPALM. "LITTLE BRO WHY COULDN'T YOU JUST STUDY WITH JIRAIYA OR TSUNADE this is not what I meant at all." And going to head off Naruto and co. before they can rescue Gaara: "Okay I'll go stop them in a non-lethal fashion! ... I mean - uh - sure I'll kill all of them except Naruto. Yes, that is a thing that I will do. OOPS THEY'RE STRONG NEVER MIND SORRY BOSS." And Kisame's face when Gai continues to not recognize him! ... I SORT OF WANT TO SHIP IT, except I don't really ship it because Kakashi/Gai forever, but I'd sure as hell read the fic and look at the doujinshi and fanart.
... I miss the pre-timeskip art. The style change isn't horrible, I just feel like people had more individual faces before. And Itachi looked so tiny and grumpy and unhot.

Gosh, if I weren't continually stopping to ramble in this entry, I would be amazed about how much faster-paced this is than the anime at this point. Poor Shippuden anime, off to a poorly-paced start. (And yes, I did so watch the anime for this bit back in York, but I quit before the Sasori vs. Chiyo and Sakura fight wrapped up because it was SO. SLOW.)

Considering that the fire-breathing techniques make you puff your cheeks out adorably, I am amazed that they were an Uchiha staple. Seems kind of undignified. Also Itachi, never smile while you are in evil mode, it is unnerving.
Zetsu: gross and serves no purpose except to be a convenient bearer of news and redshirt army. Where the fuck did you come from, Zetsu?
... aaaaaand we are about a couple chapters from the point where I originally stopped reading the manga back in what, 2005? Because I was like "HELL NO GAARA IS NOT ALLOWED TO DIE EVER IN ANY WAY." I'm kind of glad now that this is when I quit, even though I missed out on Gaara not dying; I really could not have afforded my current level of fandom investment back then (hell, not sure I can afford it now but whoops too late), and since the fandom has been in something of a decline by meme accounts since the start of Shippuden, I'm really happy that I didn't get caught up in that decline and still have the energy for ENDLESS FEELINGS AND FIC. Sort of.

More generally speaking, I recall reading part of an essay once that was analyzing Sakura's treatment in Shippuden, and specifically criticizing her fight with Sasori as not counting for much, since Sasori as an enemy was an unknown quantity and some other related reasons, I think. Well, bullshit. At the time of these fights, the only Akatsuki members we'd seen fighting were Kisame, Itachi, Sasori, and Deidara, and Sasori and Deidara's fights had been really short, so fighting any Akatsuki member besides Kisame or Itachi would count as fighting an unknown quantity, and everyone had just faced the Kisame and Itachi clone-things, so fighting them again would have been way too repetitive. So haters can suck it, Chiyo and Sakura vs. Sasori is awesome.
