Sorry for the radio silence, but work has been boring and I have mostly just been throwing myself headlong into catching up with the Beelzebub manga, plus doll meet yesterday.
I think that on the whole I mostly prefer the anime, which seems a little less fanservicey in some ways, and also is a lot more - expansive, I guess? For a whole lot of chapters, reading the manga felt like reading an abridged version of the anime; there's a lot of anime-only gags and side plots, which I kind of missed in the manga. Plus the humor comes across a little more naturally in the anime, I think, but that might just be me.
... of course, this all changed when it came to the appearance of Jabberwock and Behemoth and Akumano Academy, which the anime deals with in a rather abbreviated way (naturally, though, since it was ending). I like how the anime handled it given their time constraints, but the manga arc is FANTASTIC. So many wonderful moments for all concerned - the whole island with Ikaruga Suiten! Total femslash moment for Kunieda and Agiel! Crowning moments of badass for Himekawa and Toujou and Kunieda! Crowning moments of hilarious stupidity for Oga and Toujou OH MY PRECIOUS IDIOTS I ADORE YOU! And then the vacation arc in Okinawa was excellent, I was almost crying with laughter every time Toujou showed up with his chinsukou, it was just so dumb that it was amazing. And Yuka getting to do things YUKA YOU ARE MY FAVORITE SPACE CASE. ♥ Plus Kanzaki and his niece! And Himekawa to the (very scary) rescue! AHHHHHHHH I LOVE EVERYTHING.
I have no idea where the manga is going, since it's still basically a gag manga, and Oga is pretty ridiculously overpowered for most opponents at the moment, but I sure can't wait for more. :D It'll be nice having another series where I genuinely look forward to the updates (like One Piece!), instead of getting sick with dread and anticipation (NARUTO >:O ) or just not caring (Bleach).
The doll meet went very well, as usual! I was good and didn't get any clothes except a one-dollar pair of pants for Kimimaro which look fabulous on him - I switched his outfit fully once I got home, so now he's wearing the sleeveless shirt I had him in at first + the new pants, it is very nice. There was another top that I had meant to put on him to go with the new pants, but it doesn't seem to work the way I thought it did or possibly it is meant for a doll with entirely different measurements, so maybe I will see about getting him a different version. Or making one, it's a pretty simple top pattern (I think).
