Yuletide recs!
Yes, it is that traditional time of year where I - er - give up trying to read ALL THE YULETIDE FICS and decide to tell you about the ones I did read and especially loved.
First, of course, I wish to squee more about the gorgeous gifts I received, because LET ME TELL YOU, I received two lovely fics this year! The first one is "Bedtime Stories," for the new Thundercats, and it is so sweet and all about stories and how Cheetara is a badass and Tygra is a romantic and how great everyone is, and I could honestly not imagine receiving a better story in this fandom. ♥ Special bonus: WileyKit and WileyKat's mom is totally a lesbian adventuress! NOW I WANT FIC OF THIS TOO, BECAUSE AWESOME.
The second is "Overwrite," for Red vs. Blue, and omfg how much have I craved THIS EXACT FIC, so much you do not even know! It's about Agent Washington adjusting to life at Valhalla and finding some peace for himself among the Blue and Red Team hijinks, and it's just so perfect and funny and touching and omfg AGENT WASHINGTON FIC. *cuddles*
"All the Stars at Night," Lilo & Stitch - hilarious and sweet with a sexy ending for Nani! Most excellent.
"The Small Rain," King Arthur (2004) - short, but a really nice moment of developing soldierly camaraderie. And snark. Oh, I love the snarky soldiers.
"Have done with sorrow," Demon's Lexicon trilogy - ALAN/NICK ALAN/NICK ALAN/NICK okay - uh - that's the main thing I got for this. Very well-written Alan/Nick, though! And you know me and brothers.
"Three Sisters," "Rabbit Heart (Raise It Up) (yeah, the song by Florence + The Machine) - I loved the fairy-tale feel of this fic, it's beautifully done.
"A Solitary Lens," The Dark Crystal - a really cool fic from Aughra's point of view, it captures her voice really well. ♥
"Tiny Sideways Wishes," Natsume Yuujinchou - not gonna lie, I love this fic because I love Natsume getting hugs BECAUSE HE DESERVES ALL THE HUGS, and if it's a tiny Natsume getting hugs, as it is in this fic? EVEN BETTER. So yes! THIS FIC FOR ALL YOUR NATSUME HUG NEEDS. On a brief non-Yuletide rec, "A Kind of Telephone Line Through Time" by Paperwar is a lovely fic too; it has drunk Hinoe, who is an even better drunk than Nyanko-sensei, and Reiko memories and sweetness and ahhhhhhh, just an enjoyable short fic. ♥
"An Ordinary Session," Natsume Yuujinchou - post-canon fic with an original character, and so very, very worth reading because eeeeeeeee grown-up Natsume and Tanuma being awesome helpful grown-ups! I LOVE THESE BOYS. ♥
"House and Home," Tokyo Babylon - aaahhhhhhhhhhh Subaru MY FAVORITE PERSON, being the kind, sweet boy he is and trying his best to help everyone. ;o; WITH SURPRISE NATSUME CAMEO, which is what made me love this fic the most.
"Dum Spiro, Spero," Tiger & Bunny - Sky High fic where he is just as lovely and determined as the show, and is totally about to get inducted into a threesome with Kotetsu and Barnaby and it will be AWESOME but sadly, this is just the build-up. Good build-up, though! There are cuddles!
"A Considerable Amount of Paperwork," Hot Fuzz - short but sweet fic handling the aftermath of the explosion in the precinct. I don't know, it's just understated and charming and I loved it.
"stop. rewind. repeat," Puella Magi Madoka Magica - definitely my favorite of the Madoka fics, I love the way each timeline's Mami sees the changes in Homura and the hope at the end. Just a beautiful story.
"The Cold Days of Winter," Eight Days of Luke - LOKI IS POSSESSIVE, THIS SURPRISES NO ONE. I love how this fic weaves in more of the mythology and the messed-up mythology family dynamics, and David is perfect, and I love it. ♥
"The Lotus Eater," The Dark Tower - omfg this writer has Roland nailed. I love the concept of this story, and the characterization is fantastic! SUPER GOOD FIC.
"The Only Puzzle Worth Solving," the Thrawn trilogy - omfg Thrawn working out how to seduce Pellaeon yes please all of this MORE OF THIS ALL OF THE THRAWN AND PELLAEON FFFFFFFFFFFF I LOVE THEM. The other Thrawn fic, "The Chimaera Competition," is also really fun, but SEDUCTION UNF YES.
And finally, another rec which I simply cannot leave behind a cut - "Frame Story," Princess Tutu. Oh my gods, this fic is amazing - there's a frame story to keep Ahiru human woven in with her and Fakir's everyday lives, and both stories are perfect and gorgeous and ahhhhhh, this may be the most perfect post-canon fic for them I have ever read. I love it so much, it's longer than most of the fics I've recced but it is so, so worth reading. Just fantastic. ♥
AND UH THAT IS ALL I GUESS because I don't think I will have time to read any more before reveals. XD Happy New Year's to anyone who's celebrating!
