(no subject)
Wow, I have once again neglected this - my bad, I've been kind of devoured with writing an Utena fic and trying to read Gregory's Moralia in Iob to get a better understanding of why Laithcenn would abridge it. (Original theory: to appeal to an English audience. Current theory: because it would otherwise be impossible to read in a single person's lifetime HOLY FUCK GREGORY SERIOUSLY.)
Anyway, waiting on a beta to post the fic, but you know what I have not done in a while? I have not shared music! LET'S DO THAT.
"Life is a boat," Nakao Ryuusei and Kugimiya Rie cover - probably my favorite of the Bleach OP/ED covers because damn, I just love Nakao Ryuusei. He's so funny and sweet in person, and his voice is really charming when he's, you know, not talking about experimenting on Quincies. D:
"Sora, Hoshi, Umi no Yoru," The Back Horn - I just find this song very lovely and wish I had more songs that sounded like it.
"I Don't Give A Damn," Avril Lavigne - yes, I know, AVRIL LAVIGNE, but this is just one of my necessary "hey fuck off" songs. Because hey! I DON'T GIVE A DAMN~
"Kill the Lights," The Birthday Massacre - there really, really needs to be an Utena music video to this song. FOR REAL. Maybe one day I will learn how to make it.
"Bleach (English version)," SNoW - this is my slightly quieter "hey fuck off" song that I have just fallen in love with recently. BUT REALLY IT IS LOVELY. Favorite line: "I will not smile to please." YES ENDLESS TRUTH.
In other news, I went to an awesome lecture on Tuesday about the colophon in the Lindisfarne Gospels, given by none other than Francis Newton, who wrote THE book on the Monte Cassino scriptorium and Beneventan and is therefore basically like unto a god to me. And then I went to dinner afterwards and did NOT make an antisocial creeper ass of myself like I did the last time I tried this, which was great! Plus it turns out that Francis Newton? LIVES TEN DOORS DOWN FROM SOME FRIENDS OF MY MOM'S AND KNOWS THEM HOLY FUCK TALK ABOUT WORLDS COLLIDING my mind was blown FOR THE ENTIRE REST OF THE EVENING. Just. OH MY GOSH. Plus he knows my paleography professor at UNC! Ahhhhhhhh oh my gods THIS IS AMAZING. Now I really want to do an amazing job on my dissertation so that I am not letting EVERYONE I KNOW down.
Also so how about that Naruto chapter this week huh. PLEASE BE NEXT WEEK ALREADY so I can FINALLY get Fourth Kazekage characterization to work with and also A Dance With Dragons AT LONG GODDAMN LAST oh my gods I am dying here.
