YULETIDE TIMES
Yep, it's that time of the year again! TIME TO WRITE YULETIDE LETTERS (and sign up at some point, I guess - but letter first!). Here goes!
Dear Yuletide Writer,
Hi! This will be my fifth Yuletide (holy crap, how did that happen? WHERE DOES THE TIME GO) and I'd just like to assure you that I have loved all the stories I've received and had a great time every year, so please don't stress out too much about writing for me - whatever you come up with, I'm sure I'll love! I'm pretty easy to please when it comes to fic written just for me. ♥ Also, regardless of how long each individual section of this letter may be (uh - the Marathon section kind of got away from me), I promise that whichever fandom you write for me, I'll be incredibly happy!
A few general things to get out of the way: I'm not much of a porn reader, so please don't feel like you have to write porn for my sake. But if you have a smokin' hot idea for any of my ships - sure, go for it. XD I don't have any big non-narrative kinks, but I don't mind being introduced to something new, either, though I'm really not into watersports or scat. I love gen, slash, femslash, and threesomes/polyamory, and I love certain het ships, too (random het, I'm kind of eh on). I love canon-divergent and setting AUs - well, maybe not so much coffeeshop AUs, but genderswaps, characters in space (that aren't already there), or other fun SF/fantasy-type AUs are AWESOME. (Daemon AUs: also great! Dewclaws: only acceptable in Marathon because aliens.) Crossovers with fandoms I already know are A-OK, too. Himekawa Tatsuya, Kanzaki Hajime, Hanazawa Yuka, Oga Tatsumi
So, this fandom has sort of become one of my perennial exchange requests, but I can't help it! I just adore everyone in it so much! And I especially adore Himekawa and Kanzaki and Yuka - Himekawa and Kanzaki have such a great broship in the anime, and they're GODDAMN AWESOME in the manga and I can't help shipping them super hard. And Yuka is my favorite space case in the world, I adore her and her broship with Kanzaki, so either Himekawa/Kanzaki (HOT HAIRPULLING PORN) or Himekawa/Kanzaki/Yuka would be wonderful. Due to recent manga developments, I have also developed a strong craving for Oga/Kanzaki because - well, DAMN, him being the first to sign up as Oga and Beel's vassal just hit my loyalty kink like the fist of an angry god. But as long as hilarious demon-raising delinquent hijinks are involved, I WILL LOVE IT. I've watched the entire anime and keep up with the manga weekly, so no worries about spoiling me for anything!

RWBY
Nora Valkyrie, Lie Ren, Pyrrha Nikos
You're looking for a charming but action-packed girl-centric series with lots of femslash potential, you say? Look no further than RWBY, available for free at the Rooster Teeth website! It's still in its early stages, but it's really fun so far and most of the episodes are pretty short, so it's easy to pick up if you don't already know it and want to give it a try.
As for my specific requests: NORA VALKYRIE IS QUEEN OF MY HEART. She's so hilarious and badass and adorable and even in the few episodes available at the time I write this, I have fallen in love with her. *_* She and Lie Ren have the cutest freakin' relationship in the world ("She's been having this recurring dream all month" cracked me the fuck up, so perfect), and so whatever develops in the coming episodes, I just want to see more awesome Nora and Lie Ren adventures! And Pyrrha is really great so far, too - I love that she's kind of shy but super strong and wants to help people. I'd love seeing how she fits in with Nora and Lie Ren as they get used to being on the same team together, and what kind of friendship they'll develop! ... if it turns into a threesome that's TOTALLY OKAY.
I like Jaune too, but I'm mad at him for rudely refusing Pyrrha's help so unless something changes my mind before signups close, I'm not specifically requesting him. Please feel free to include him anyway if you want to, though! XD
Shoujo Kakumei Utena | Revolutionary Girl Utena
Mikage, Shadow Play Girls
Utena is one of my favorite anime of ALL TIME (and I have watched a fair bit, okay), and while I love pretty much every character and find even the ones I don't love fascinating, Mikage/Nemuro has a special place in my heart just for being such a tragic fool. I want to punch him like Utena and then hug him or something, I don't know. He's just such a stupid genius and so sad and memory-wipe/disappearance-from-existence things give me the screaming horrors (DON'T GET ME STARTED ON KINGDOM HEARTS, there's a reason my tag for those games is "kingdom heartbreaks"), so - er - I guess I'd like fix-it fic of some sort? It doesn't have to be all sunshine and not-roses, just something with a little hope in it that he might have actually escaped Ohtori like Utena or at least gotten to meet the real Mamiya's spirit in an afterlife or - something. (I know Mamiya wasn't nominated so please feel free to ignore this parenthetical aside, but I really liked the glimpses of their relationship that we saw, so I'd adore fic of them just interacting before everything went wrong, just the two of them or with Tokiko there, too.) I don't know if this is a widespread theory or not, but one of my friends once suggested to me that Mikage and Tokiko might actually be Utena's parents (they both have pink hair, even if it's slightly different shades, and he does mistake her for Tokiko), so fic exploring that possibility would be really cool, or something that deals with the way the Black Roses work. But honestly, I'd just take anything focused on Mikage.
As for the shadow girls - they are an endless, endless delight! I'd love fic about how they come up with their skit ideas and whether or not they're aware of how their skits tie into the larger world of Ohtori. How long have they been in business, anyway? What kinds of skits did they do for pre-Utena duels? They're already pretty meta as characters, so meta fic about them would be absolutely awesome. (And if it happens to tie into Mikage/the Black Rose arc in any way - so much the better!)
Marathon (Computer Games)
Any (Durandal, Security Officer, Leela, Tycho, Robert Blake, F'tha, Admiral Tfear, Bernhard Strauss)
Okay, this one's going to get long - partly because of the "any," partly because I'm assuming we didn't match on this fandom and want to lure you into the Cult of Durandal tempt you into trying it in case you don't care for any of my other requests, and mostly because I just can't resist any opportunity to ramble about this fandom. :D
The basics: The Marathon games are a trilogy of first-person shooters from the mid-90s made by masters of the genre, Bungie, and which are currently available for free through the magic of open source. The first game involves the PC, a nameless security officer from Mars, fighting off an alien invasion aboard the colony ship Marathon in orbit around Tau Ceti. The security officer gets help and directions from the AI Leela and interference from another of the ship's AI, Durandal, who has gone Rampant and does whatever the heck he feels like, which is sometimes helpful and sometimes - less so (I'M LOOKING AT YOU, "Colony Ship For Sale, Cheap"). In the second game, Durandal has allied himself with one of the alien races, the S'pht (who were enslaved by the primary attackers at Tau Ceti, the Pfhor) and has kidnapped the security officer to help him search for a weapon to fight against the Pfhor. And the third game, Marathon: Infinity - well, it gets a little weird, let's put it like that. (Alternate timelines and space Cthulhu may or may not be involved.) They're tremendously fun, have variable settings so you can blast through on the easy ones to get to the story bits/enjoy some mayhem or go harder to challenge yourself, and the story is amazingly complex for a shooter of any era, with lots of fascinating little worldbuilding details scattered throughout.
FPSes not being everyone's cup of tea, there's a pretty great video Let's Play series by HalvedStudios available here - there's occasionally some cringe-worthy language, but overall it's no worse than, say, Red vs. Blue, and the guy playing covers a lot of the more interesting theories about the games and also shares all my feelings about the dream levels in Infinity and Durandal. XD There's also text LPs for the first game and the second game, plus the Marathon's Story page, which contains the manual introductions, complete sets of terminal texts for all three games, and tons of meta and speculation, so all on its own it's practically enough to get you set for writing fic. (Though I'd still recommend either giving the games a try to get a feel for the mechanics, or watching the Let's Play videos.)
... er, anyway, let's talk about what I actually want out of fic for Marathon now! Although I'm going to be honest, the answer is: ANYTHING. EVERYTHING. There is just so much to explore in the setting and characters that fic dealing with any of it would make me ecstatic! But to narrow things down a tiny bit, I shall ramble on about specific characters.
Durandal: WHERE DO I EVEN START WITH DURANDAL. One time he punched me in the face. It was AWESOME. Not just one of my favorite characters in Marathon, he's probably one of my favorite characters of all time - I mean, insane AI with delusions of godhood who snarks his way through the galaxy while also helping free an alien race from slavery and having a slightly woobie background? THERE'S NOTHING NOT TO LOVE. ... which is probably why every single Marathon fic I've written has him in it, haha. But seriously, I can never get enough Durandal! I ship him hard with the security officer (see also: basically all my Marathon fics, the fanmix), so naturally I'd love more of their adventures together/missing scenes/AUs/goofy tropefics/ANYTHING, but gen about Durandal's Rampancy, something that explored his relationships with Tycho and Leela aboard the Marathon, AI hatesex with Tycho, what exactly happened with Bernhard Strauss and Durandal's "shame on Mars," his alliance with the S'pht, where does he get that Jjaro dreadnaught from anyway, what's up with his over-identification with the sword from the Song of Roland... It's all good, just let there be Durandal!
Security Officer: Okay - it's a little harder to rhapsodize about the security officer, since they're something of a blank slate in the games. XD Pretty much all you get are some variable concept art, the manual introductions, and possibly some of the terminals in Infinity (hi, dream levels!); the main non-spoilery things you can say for certain are that they're from Mars, they're a badass at killing Pfhor, and they've made quite the impression on Durandal. (Canon line from Durandal to the security officer: "You know I'll never let you go." Sure, it's a little creepy in context, but when it comes to AI/human relationships, I love a little creepy!) Basically, go wild with 'em! I know I've primarily stuck to writing a certain male version of the security officer in my fic because he's fun, but please don't limit yourself to writing that version - I'd absolutely adore seeing a female security officer kicking Pfhor ass and holding her own with Durandal (or Durandana, if you want to write genderswapped Durandal, too).
Leela: I might not be quite as wildly in love with Leela as I am with Durandal, but on the other hand, my first personal computer was named after her while I have not yet dared name any subsequent computers after him, so she wins in that area. XD She's pretty great in her own right, even if she doesn't go Rampant on-screen - I've always wondered what exactly she does after she's taken over that 15-world Vylae network, and whether Durandal ever stops by to say hi afterwards. Also how on earth she put up with Durandal and Tycho for three hundred years. XD It's really interesting how Durandal seems to resent and admire her at the same time (that secret terminal on "The Rose" vs. his message in M2 about how she deserved better than getting dismantled and shipped off to the Pfhor homeworld), so anything exploring that dynamic between them would be fantastic.
Tycho: I'll be honest, I absolutely despise Tycho. ... but that doesn't mean I don't want fic about him! Mainly the previously mentioned AI hatesex with Durandal, but I'd also be interested in his path to Rampancy - why did the S'pht resurrect him "in Durandal's image"? Why did he go from being angry with Durandal for causing so many people's deaths, then join the Pfhor to cause - even more deaths? WHY IS HE SUCH AN ASSHOLE? No, but really, I still wouldn't mind fic about him. XD Maybe something during one of the Infinity alternate timelines when you're stuck working for him.
Robert Blake: That poor bastard. Captured and stuck in stasis by alien slavers only to be woken up by Durandal with the ultimatum "Fight or go back to stasis," ends up being the leader of all the other poor humans stuck on Lh'owon, only gets away because the security officer is nice enough to clean out a Pfhor ship for him and the few survivors to steal... I'd love to see some day-to-day Life of Blake while he deals with the awfulness of his position and butts heads with Durandal, or what happens when he and the rest of the survivors finally make it back to the solar system. (I think he should get a freakin' medal, but that's up to you. XD ) There's also that theory that Blake (or at least the version you actually talk to in-game) is just Durandal putting on a front to fool Thoth; honestly, I don't buy it, but I'd still totally read fic exploring that possibility.
F'tha/Bernhard Strauss/Admiral Tfear: Okay, squishing these three into one because I've gone on way too long already... They're all minor characters (F'tha appears in one terminal on one level in M2, Strauss you only see one of his log entries and hear AI gossip, and you don't hear from Tfear personally until Infinity), but they're all fascinating in their own ways! F'tha is one of the few S'pht you get to talk to directly - well, as much as you can talk directly to anyone given the game limitations - and they come off quite sympathetically, so more about them (especially fic where they get to survive the game) would be great. And Tfear's just a scary bastard in general - how many organic life-forms can outwit Durandal even temporarily? NOT DAMN MANY. Plus both of them would be great characters for exploring S'pht and Pfhor cultures in general; the little glimpses you get to see in various terminals are interesting, and I'd adore reading more. As for Strauss - well, what did happen to him? Was he killed in the invasion of the Marathon or did he escape somehow? What kind of experiments was he running on Durandal? And exactly how did he know about those Mjolnir cyborgs that were smuggled aboard, anyway?
... okay, yeah, that REALLY got away from me, so let me reassure you once again that I'll be equally happy with fic for Utena, RWBY, or Beelzebub! I just have more ideas for Marathon than I could personally write in a lifetime, so. XD Just write whatever you're comfortable with and again, please don't stress too much, because I'm sure you'll come up with something I'll love. ♥

Captured and stuck in stasis by alien slavers only to be woken up by Durandal with the ultimatum "Fight or go back to stasis," ends up being the leader of all the other poor humans stuck on Lh'owon, only gets away because the security officer is nice enough to clean out a Pfhor ship for him and the few survivors to steal... I'd love to see some day-to-day Life of Blake while he deals with the awfulness of his position and butts heads with Durandal, or what happens when he and the rest of the survivors finally make it back to the solar system. (I think he should get a freakin' medal, but that's up to you. XD ) There's also that theory that Blake (or at least the version you actually talk to in-game) is just Durandal putting on a front to fool Thoth; honestly, I don't buy it, but I'd still totally read fic exploring that possibility.
F'tha/Bernhard Strauss/Admiral Tfear: Okay, squishing these three into one because I've gone on way too long already... They're all minor characters (F'tha appears in one terminal on one level in M2, Strauss you only see one of his log entries and hear AI gossip, and you don't hear from Tfear personally until Infinity), but they're all fascinating in their own ways! F'tha is one of the few S'pht you get to talk to directly - well, as much as you can talk directly to anyone given the game limitations - and they come off quite sympathetically, so more about them (especially fic where they get to survive the game) would be great. And Tfear's just a scary bastard in general - how many organic life-forms can outwit Durandal even temporarily? NOT DAMN MANY. Plus both of them would be great characters for exploring S'pht and Pfhor cultures in general; the little glimpses you get to see in various terminals are interesting, and I'd adore reading more. As for Strauss - well, what did happen to him? Was he killed in the invasion of the Marathon or did he escape somehow? What kind of experiments was he running on Durandal? And exactly how did he know about those Mjolnir cyborgs that were smuggled aboard, anyway?
... okay, yeah, that REALLY got away from me, so let me reassure you once again that I'll be equally happy with fic for Utena, RWBY, or Beelzebub! I just have more ideas for Marathon than I could personally write in a lifetime, so. XD Just write whatever you're comfortable with and again, please don't stress too much, because I'm sure you'll come up with something I'll love. ♥
