Now that I have had an entirely insufficient amount of sleep and survived my thesis meeting, it is time to write out one thousand feelings about A Memory of Light.
TWO CANON GAY DUDES IN THE WHEEL OF TIME
NOT JUST ONE
BUT TWO
AND I'M PRETTY SURE BOTH OF THEM SURVIVED I could be wrong but I was unreasonably devastated by every named character death, even Lanfear's, so I think I would have remembered something happening to either Baldhere or Emarin
anyway I am also counting Talmanes among their number even if nothing is explicitly stated because why not, and all of them should go have hot awesome "we survived Tarmon Gai'don" make-outs, especially Talmanes after he made it through that prologue
go forth and fuck with the blessing of the Light, my sons, and about goddamn time too
As for everything else - holy fuck, where do I even begin?
RAND LIVED AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH MY HEART - although - he did it by jumping to Moridin's body? Little creepy there, dude (although lol he totally has a sharingan in one eye now hahahahahaha). I guess it means Moridin/Ishamael got to finally die like he apparently wanted all along, though, so - um - hope he enjoys all that not existing? I am unreservedly joyful about Rand surviving, but I am not sure how I feel about the mechanics of it. I am also not entirely sure what the fuck he did with the Dark One, but it was like 3 in the morning by the time I hit that part so I'm willing to cut both myself and the plot some slack and figure it will make more sense when I re-read it.
Speaking of canon gay dudes, did anyone else have feelings about Demandred? I mean, I know I'm one of ~those fangirls, but I don't think it's just that speaking when I say that some Lews Therin make-outs back in the past might have saved everyone a whole lot of trouble. SERIOUSLY, DEMANDRED, some issues, you have them. Had them. (HOLY FUCK LAN THAT WAS AWESOME and if you'd died doing it I would have killed you.)
... oh, I guess that brings us to the casualty count. ;o; I guess we got off light considering the Last Battle and all but AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH HURIN ;o; GAWYN ;o; SIUAN AND GARETH ;o; DAVRAM BASHERE ;o; TENOBIA ;o; ALANNA ;o; ENAILA ;o; RHUARC ;o; EGWENE NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO WHY LIGHT WHYYYYYYYYYYYYY. (And fuck, I cannot have been the only one to freak out when Birgitte's head got cut off. Even if it didn't stick because Hero of the Horn, AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH.)
Leilwin/Egeanin's brief stint as a Warder? AWESOME. But Gawyn. ;o; EGWENE I WILL MOURN YOU FOREVER BECAUSE YOU WERE A STONE COLD BAMF AND YOU SHOULD TOTALLY BE MADE A HERO OF THE HORN. I am so incredibly relieved that Galad lived, though, he and Berelain will be an utterly terrifying force for - something. AND HE FINALLY LEARNED THAT HE AND RAND ARE HALF-BROTHERS GODS IT WAS ABOUT TIME. If only they could have had some moments to actually talk and bond or something though. D: Maybe there will be TOP-SECRET meetings later.
Creeped out a little by Moghedien ending up as a damane again, especially since the whole damane system is really freaking disturbing, but - not sure what could have been done besides someone just killing her. And I have hopes that the damane system is going to end up fading away in a hundred years or so as the rest of this continent influences the Seanchan who've settled there, by which point I guess I can hope that Moghedien has somehow managed to truly reform or repent without getting broken. ... yeah, it's a really fucking slim chance but what else can I hope for? D:
Both slightly amused and slightly sad by Rand telling Lanfear "we are never ever getting back together." It's not like I actually shipped it, really, occasional fevered imaginings while I was re-reading The Great Hunt aside, but I did kind of like Lanfear and her ending sucks. Better than Moghedien's, though.
MOIRAINE AND NYNAEVE ARE BUDDIES NOW FUCK YEEEEEEEEAH.
HAHAHAHAHA I CAN'T FUCKING BELIEVE THAT THE PATTERN OR WHATEVER REMEMBERS THAT TIME MAT DIED BY RAHVIN, that's fucking hilarious and also thank fuck SOMEONE remembered it. GO OLVER GO.
Rand, I can tell you exactly which of your three wives is going to end up following you and it sure as hell ain't Elayne the Goddamn Queen of Andor and Motherfucking Cairhien or Aviendha the Wise One. Min will jump at the chance not to hang out with the Seanchan and the two of you will be the most adorable traveling couple and of course you will send Tam souvenirs and make stops in to see Aviendha and Elayne and your babies whenever you can do so without alerting people and it will be a good, good life. Oh precious people I am so happy for you and for Perrin and Faile and for Mat and Tuon aaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH MY FUCKING HEART I AM ABOUT TO CRY RIGHT IN THE KING'S MANOR COMMON ROOM.
Brandon Sanderson, that was a good ending and you should feel good about yourself.
Now I guess it is time to return to the whole series re-read. The Shadow Rising, here I come! Um, after some internet catching-up.
