Sometimes people tease me for my faith in humanity. I wouldn't say i always trust mankind to do the right thing but, for all my sarcastic ways, I have this pesky belief that most people are inherently good.
I know, I know...in this day and age its a shocking way to think. And Im sure it probably stems from my being an overly optimistic, overly sympathetic human being who's overly analytical mind will search for a redeeming factor in almost anything.
Just be glad you weren't in the room when I first saw Gladiator -- then you too could of bore witness to my defense of Commodus, who's actions I didn't condone but, c`mon, you'd probably want to stab Russel Crowe too if your dad basically was like "well, son, you really suck...like really suck and this guy here's gonna take over when i die cause he's the kid i really wanted. so, um, yeah, have fun with that. kthxbai"
Of course, as much fun as it is to get into a lengthy debate about the true grey area of a fictional movie villain (albeit a really hot one) the whole point of this post is this -- I keep this pesky belief because, in my life, people keep affirming it.
Today, my Mom brought home the jar the Quick Stop had put up for our friend Tim, after his surgery. In less than two weeks, people had left for him over $1,000. And this isnt counting donations such as a month's worth of rent (over $900) or a detachable shower head since he cant get his neck wet.
The day I worked, everyone and their brother was still asking about him, wishing him well, filling out the silly ghetto card I made, and tossing more money in the jar.
Sure, this is a testament to how amazing of a guy Tim is but its also a reminder of the fact that, despite all bad in the world, at the heart of things people really are a fairly decent bunch.
life,
humanity
