OSU was quite the experience. There were so many AMAZING fencers there. My record was not that great, but there were lots of fun people to meet and fence. One of which was Jason Rogers....the USA's number 1 Men's Saber fencer....that was an honor. I learned a lot of things that I need to start doing to make myself better. It is so inspiring (not really in the religious ephihany sort of way, but more the, I want to be the best fencer ever sort of way. I mainly learned that I need to not rely on quick fixes. It's true that tweaking your enguarde in the middle of a bout may help you get some points, but honestly, it will help you against that one opponent, but it is not going make you better against everyone. I honestly feel my footwork is going to have to improve 100-fold if I hope to even begin to win bouts consistently. Thus, I am instigating a new fencing ideal for myself. Hopefully next semester, maybe even this semester if I can get on it, I would like to really starting making saber a real sport here, not just a club. I want to stop viewing it as "just fun" and start religiously going to practices, and making it a real priority in my life.
