Usually I just update this thing telling you all about the goings on of my life, but this entry I actually have something meaningful (in my opinion) to write about: the madness that is going on in our sports society today.
Let's recap shall we...
-National Football League is dealing with one of their most recognizable stars, Mike Vick, is being charged with the gruesome and horrible act of participating in dogfitting (which is a felony)
-National Basketballl Association is dealing with a referee being found of fixing NBA games (and also betting on them)
-Major League Baseball continues to deal with the dark cloud of steroids that lingers over the game. The Barry Bonds Saga also continues to chase after hank Aaron's home run record and is currently 2 homers away from tying the record. You ask this should be a celebration over this immense accomplishment, not a problem that the MLB has. Well this is unfortunately false because it is largely thought that Barry Bonds used steroids throughout his career to increase his playing perfromance. Fans throughout the country believe that this man is a cheater (myself included) and that this record should not stand due to the heavy evidence of doping. Bonds could also be arraigned of charges of tax evasion and perjury to a grand jury.
So there you have it.
The 3 major sports leagues in the United States are all in incredible amounts of trouble. This tells you the level of responsibility and integrity that is going on in sports right now...absolutely zero. As the mega sports fan that I am, I am incredibly disapointed with these state of affairs. These leagues and players are suppose to be superior in competition and professionalism, but all I see right now is just a bunch of money and power thursty people that are corrupting a vital part of our nation. Some say "well its just sports". These people are sorely misinformed that it is only a game to Americans. These scandals have not only damaged our reputations, but have also let down the young people of this nation that look up to these "heroes". Although a few bad seeds can do enough damage, athletes should take more responsibility for their actions and even go out of their way to provide a good example. When I turn on SportsCenter, I want to see stories of integrity, not foolish and selfish scandals.
