I had jury duty this morning. It wasn't too bad. I was out of there by noon. This was my first time ever having jury duty. New Mexico evidently doesn't do jury duty because for the 4 years I lived in NM and was eligible I never got called and I can only remember 1 of my parents having jury duty ever. Anyways I was called to be on a panel. The trial was to decide if a woman was competent enough to stand trial. I wasn't picked h'obivously. I didn't like her lawyer. I think he was a court appointed lawyer but he didn't speak well. He stuttered a lot and would say 3 or 4 half sentances before choosing a 5th that he spoke fully. It was kinda irritating. I learned something though....If you are judged incopentent to be tried you are not given a get outta jail free card. You are sent to a hospital and then when you are competent you then are tried for the crime. I guess I could have come to that conclusion, but I never thought about it that way. I always thought pleading insanity was skirting the issue.
I am now home cleaning. I would have gone back to work (we released software yesterday and mondays after a release are kinda hectic) but, I took the day off for jury duty and I decided to use it to it's fullest! :D If I'm gonna take a paid day I'm gonna take my day....to clean the house....that's sad.
