I remember reading about this series a long time ago, and being very intrigued. It was about Dexter the empathic sociopath, and the article examines his popularity with women. Not just 'serial groupies', but women in general. It's because Dexter is an empathic sociopath, he kills 'the bad guys', and he doesn't pressure women for sex...though that is because he is not interested.
"Orphaned at the age of three and harboring a traumatic secret, Dexter (Michael C. Hall) was adopted by a Miami police officer who recognized his homicidal tendencies and taught him to channel his gruesome passion for human disection in a "constructive" way-by killing only heinous criminals (such as child molesters, mob assassins, and serial killers of the innocent) who have slipped through the justice system."
Dexter's Perverse World Dexter allows that he's not much into human interactions, though he notes, "I fake them well." When working upon a victim, he'll tell them, "Soon you'll be packed in a few neatly wrapped Heftys, and my own small corner of the world will be a neater, happier place." He keeps blood samples of the victims he dismembers on glass slides.
When a colleague tells him, "You have a morbid sense of fun," he doesn't disagree. Appropriately enough, his boat is named "Slice of Life." "I'm a very neat monster," is the most he'll allow of his hobby.
I'm just reminded of this again, by
brallaqueen's comment regarding Amneisa!Fraser's extremely callous character in the Due South S2 finale, "Flashback"; "
In many ways I see Fraser as a high functioning sociopath- he sees most people as things to be saved or rescued but still as things. So being stripped of his Messiah mentality (I'm exaggerating I know but, it sounds good :)) I was interested to see that he treats people again, like objects."
