Twilight "Unlove This Life" (Bella Swann)

Nov 27, 2009 22:37

Bella was bruised all over, but that was alright.

Her mother wore bruises too.

As did her Aunt Stacy.

Her teacher in the fourth grade, who always looked so happy when the roses were sent to her in class.

"A good man", her Aunt Stacy had said, a year after her husband left, and she had to sell their house, "a good man, is one that never leaves you."

Bella knew she's not pretty, except to Edward, except to Jacob, she's not pretty enough to leave, try for Hollywood. Bella knew she's not brilliant, Bella knew she's not strong, she can't compete.

Her body was growing and her time was running out as she becomes a woman, but one without a future. Her world of beautiful dresses and dances and poetry was fading back to flat paper and monochrome ink.

Soon Bella would be that waitress who never goes home, there early in the morning and still there late at night, teeth yellow with coffee, smiling and flinching and being yelled at for not being fast enough, while she was trying to remember her youth.

Edward promised Bella eternity, and his blood would give her much more than a ring that wasn't even enough to pay mortgage. The bruises were alright.
