as i sat down to do my entry this week, i was going over the rules. I came across this:

You may use any Harry Potter related picture for this challenge. Screencaps, promotionals, pictures of the actors, fanart (if allowed by the artist, and with credit!), etc are all fine. Textures, brushes, text are allowed.

I do not understand why you are allowing fanart to be used in a lims competition. This merely means that all someone has to do is get permission from another fanart creator to use a piece of artwork that he/she likes the coloring on and simply slap on the text needed to be included in this challenge.

I thought the whole point of a lims competition is for the best maker to win. I don't want to do my own work then lose to someone that didn't do anything but crop the fanart down to icon size and add text. It's not a fair competition this way.

Or am I just not understanding?

I think we have different understandings of what fanart includes. Fanart you are allowed to use for the current challenge is original artwork by others, depicting characters or scenes from the HP world. Some examples would be makani's, or artdungeon's works.
I'm allowing these for use, since to me they are nothing else than an alternate source for imagery to work with.

What I am not permitting people to use, are other graphics (icons, headers, wallpapers, etc.) made by someone else, cropping them and putting text on, as you imply. That would indeed defeat the purpose of a lims competition, which is why I didn't elaborate on my use of the term fanart. I thought it goes without saying that you can't use other people's graphics and submit them as your own. Which btw. hardly any graphic makers would permit anyway.

I hope this clears up things for you?

No problem at all, I'm glad you openly addressed the issue!

I'll also edit the challenge post to make it a little clearer for everyone. :)
