The thing is, the legend of Saint Nicholas - not quite a myth, you see - has passed through so many people and tales that what it's become is almost unrecognizable from what it was. There were some reindeer involved, yes, and a chimney, at one point, but the way Muggles think of Saint Nick now was hardly what Saint Nick actually got up to on a regular basis before.
And that's the other thing about Saint Nick. He isn't entirely just Muggle in origin either...

Who is this Santa person I have been hearing about from my Muggle classmates, and what business has he got ruining the International Statute of Secrecy without reprimand?

Dear Outraged,
Certainly you've got some reason to be alarmed, but as with the case of the Loch Ness monster, the Ministry of Magic has had a difficult time containing his... antics. That said, there is very strong evidence that the wizarding community as a whole isn't in fact in danger of being outed because Muggles know about Santa, since most Muggles assume he is make-believe. All told, I don't believe we have anything to worry about.
Except perhaps Miss Granger finding out exactly how much his elves get paid...

Hello, hello, hello! With Hogsmeade over, I'm sure all of you are absolutely exhausted! I know I am!
Before we get into new stories that have been uploaded in the past two weeks, I'd like to remind everyone about the Sugarquill Exchange.
Assignments were due yesterday, so if you haven't sent in your story/art yet, you should definitely do that as soon as possible. If you agreed to be a pinch-hitter, those should be out later today and are due SATURDAY, DECEMBER 21ST, @ 11:59am UTC. The gifts sent in should be posted anonymous, through the mod, on the 22nd, so look forward to that!
Now, to the new stories!
Yaakov/yaakov of Ravenclaw posted a wonderful little piece about Peter Pettigrew and Severus Snape at Spinners End. Some of my favorite lines must be:
Miserable git!” he spat, coughing, and carefully slid the book into place.
“I’m not trying to escape,” he told the grimy window. “I just want a bit of sunlight!”
“You need to let it go,” he scoffed, waving a dismissive hand. “Whatever the hell it is that makes you so determined to be a miserable bastard.”
It's a story that definitely hits you in the feels with mentions of James and peeks at something a little more behind Peter, which is always interesting. And somehow, it even manages to make you feel sorry for the rat, which is always a good tale.

Johanna/monkiainen of Hufflepuff wrote a wonderful short story about Vernon Dursley's fears over here. She also wrote for the first Saturday Challenge of December, which was Let It Snow, featuring Luna Lovegood, here.
Megan/mahmfic, also of Hufflepuff, posted a short story, featuring Neville/Hannah and a Christmas dinner. You can read that here.
Sam/pretty_panther of Ravenclaw has posted quite a few works. There's this wonderfully sad piece about Cho right after Cedric's death. Sam has also posted this piece about Peter and his decision to stay with Percy Weasley. She also wrote a breakfast club AU featuring Cho, Hermione, Luna, Ginny and Draco. Lastly, Sam wrote something for the first Saturday challenge here, featuring Harry/Ginny and Teddy Lupin.
We've also had some work from a couple of Slytherins. Izabella/nicevenn posted the first six chapters of a holiday drabble series, featuring Harry/Draco. The masterpost for those chapters can be found here. Alley/alley_skywalker posted With All Abandon, an Alecto-Carrow centric piece.
LASTLY. Kristine/flipflop_diva of Hufflepuff posted a wonderful piece featuring Harry/Hermione. It has infidelity, with Hermione being with Ron and something steamy going down the night before her wedding, but you should definitely go read it! And nah, I'm not being biased! It's not like Harry/Hermione is my OTP of all OTP's. ;).

She probably shouldn’t be doing this - they had already said their goodbyes, on a frosty evening two weeks ago - but she just couldn’t stay away. It hurt too much to think about never having another moment.

Over at the other place that never sleeps, the Insomniacs Club, you can find Activity XXX-VI: What Happened When?, a nice logic puzzle.

It’s time to have another look at what is going on in the world of Animagus!
We have two new animagi amonst us, courtesy of the November batch. They are Kara/fluttershy_kisa of Gryffindor, who chose Bengal Cat as their Animagus form, and Jamie/stelladelnordxd of Gryffindor, who chose Bobcat as their Animagus form. Congratulations for completing your animagus transformation! The December batch will be posted soon, so get ready to cast your votes! (That is, if you are still in the books of living after the ordeal known as Hogsmeade Weekend :D)
If you wish to become an Animagus, fill out the application here (and don't forget to get your The Standard Book of Spells Vol 1-3 from Flourish and Blotts before that!). Or if for some reason you don’t feel connected with your Animagus form anymore, remember to submit an essay here before writing a new application.
Tiffany/growling was selected as the November Animagus of the Month, congratulations! There are also shiny new badges added to the Trophy Cabinet - go check them out!
A friendly reminder for everyone with an animagus form: to retain your animagus form and remain on the list of active animagi, you must do one animagus activity a term. Another Hogsmeade weekend has come to a close. Results are just starting to come in, but the Flourish Delivery Post is up. Even if you didn’t order tags, keep your eyes peeled, as there may be some gifts arriving for you. If you filled out a form at the Sigtag Sale or Fic/Art Exchange, check back to see what surprises are waiting for you.
All the activities are over, but I want to highlight a few of my favorites. For social activities, I really enjoyed Evy/slumber’s Taboo post and Kristine/flipflop_diva’s Apples to Apples games.
My favorite of the points-earning activities was the Mayors’ Monopoly game. It was really fun and creative. I also enjoyed the Order’s Karaoke and Jamie/stelladelnordxd’s Birthday Favorites collages.

Lighting Up
Hogwarts always looks incredibly beautiful all lit up for the holidays...though perhaps some of its students shouldn't be 'lighting up' in the 3rd floor corridor bathrooms.
Interhouse Quidditch????
Considering the near-bloodbaths resulting in the last couple of Quidditch games held at Hogwarts lately, word's reached this little birdie's ears that the Heads of Houses are either going to close down the season or introduce drastic measures. Could an interhouse tournament not be far from happening? You didn't hear it from here...
Mops Run Amok!
Looks like someone has been charming the mops again! Earlier this week, students had trouble getting down to the dungeons because the corridors were covered in soapy mops. They appeared to be trying to clean the floor but would get agitated when students walked by. Several children ended up in the hospital wing with bruises and upset stomachs.

Okay, Puffies, we are getting down to the final stretch! Just a bit more than two weeks to go! We’ve been doing so good this term. Let’s hang on and see it out to the end! WE CAN DO IT! xD
To help with that, the new in-house for December has been posted over here. It combines two of our very favorite things - stamping and desserts! Who doesn’t want to know what type of dessert your fellow Puffs think you are? So head on over and fill out the application and then stick around to stamp others. The thing is, the legend of Saint Nicholas - not quite a myth, you see - has passed through so many people and tales that what it's become is almost unrecognizable from what it was. There were some reindeer involved, yes, and a chimney, at one point, but the way Muggles think of Saint Nick now was hardly what Saint Nick actually got up to on a regular basis before.
And that's the other thing about Saint Nick. He isn't entirely just Muggle in origin either...

Certainly you've got some reason to be alarmed, but as with the case of the Loch Ness monster, the Ministry of Magic has had a difficult time containing his... antics. That said, there is very strong evidence that the wizarding community as a whole isn't in fact in danger of being outed because Muggles know about Santa, since most Muggles assume he is make-believe. All told, I don't believe we have anything to worry about.
Except perhaps Miss Granger finding out exactly how much his elves get paid...

Hello, hello, hello! With Hogsmeade over, I'm sure all of you are absolutely exhausted! I know I am!
Before we get into new stories that have been uploaded in the past two weeks, I'd like to remind everyone about the Sugarquill Exchange.
Assignments were due yesterday, so if you haven't sent in your story/art yet, you should definitely do that as soon as possible. If you agreed to be a pinch-hitter, those should be out later today and are due SATURDAY, DECEMBER 21ST, @ 11:59am UTC. The gifts sent in should be posted anonymous, through the mod, on the 22nd, so look forward to that!
Now, to the new stories!
Yaakov/yaakov of Ravenclaw posted a wonderful little piece about Peter Pettigrew and Severus Snape at Spinners End. Some of my favorite lines must be:
Miserable git!” he spat, coughing, and carefully slid the book into place.
“I’m not trying to escape,” he told the grimy window. “I just want a bit of sunlight!”
“You need to let it go,” he scoffed, waving a dismissive hand. “Whatever the hell it is that makes you so determined to be a miserable bastard.”
It's a story that definitely hits you in the feels with mentions of James and peeks at something a little more behind Peter, which is always interesting. And somehow, it even manages to make you feel sorry for the rat, which is always a good tale.

Johanna/monkiainen of Hufflepuff wrote a wonderful short story about Vernon Dursley's fears over here. She also wrote for the first Saturday Challenge of December, which was Let It Snow, featuring Luna Lovegood, here.
Megan/mahmfic, also of Hufflepuff, posted a short story, featuring Neville/Hannah and a Christmas dinner. You can read that here.
Sam/pretty_panther of Ravenclaw has posted quite a few works. There's this wonderfully sad piece about Cho right after Cedric's death. Sam has also posted this piece about Peter and his decision to stay with Percy Weasley. She also wrote a breakfast club AU featuring Cho, Hermione, Luna, Ginny and Draco. Lastly, Sam wrote something for the first Saturday challenge here, featuring Harry/Ginny and Teddy Lupin.
We've also had some work from a couple of Slytherins. Izabella/nicevenn posted the first six chapters of a holiday drabble series, featuring Harry/Draco. The masterpost for those chapters can be found here. Alley/alley_skywalker posted With All Abandon, an Alecto-Carrow centric piece.
LASTLY. Kristine/flipflop_diva of Hufflepuff posted a wonderful piece featuring Harry/Hermione. It has infidelity, with Hermione being with Ron and something steamy going down the night before her wedding, but you should definitely go read it! And nah, I'm not being biased! It's not like Harry/Hermione is my OTP of all OTP's. ;).

She probably shouldn’t be doing this - they had already said their goodbyes, on a frosty evening two weeks ago - but she just couldn’t stay away. It hurt too much to think about never having another moment.

It’s time to have another look at what is going on in the world of Animagus!
We have two new animagi amonst us, courtesy of the November batch. They are Kara/fluttershy_kisa of Gryffindor, who chose Bengal Cat as their Animagus form, and Jamie/stelladelnordxd of Gryffindor, who chose Bobcat as their Animagus form. Congratulations for completing your animagus transformation! The December batch will be posted soon, so get ready to cast your votes! (That is, if you are still in the books of living after the ordeal known as Hogsmeade Weekend :D)
If you wish to become an Animagus, fill out the application here (and don't forget to get your The Standard Book of Spells Vol 1-3 from Flourish and Blotts before that!). Or if for some reason you don’t feel connected with your Animagus form anymore, remember to submit an essay here before writing a new application.

Another Hogsmeade weekend has come to a close. Results are just starting to come in, but the Flourish Delivery Post is up. Even if you didn’t order tags, keep your eyes peeled, as there may be some gifts arriving for you. If you filled out a form at the Sigtag Sale or Fic/Art Exchange, check back to see what surprises are waiting for you.
All the activities are over, but I want to highlight a few of my favorites. For social activities, I really enjoyed Evy/slumber’s Taboo post and Kristine/flipflop_diva’s Apples to Apples games.
My favorite of the points-earning activities was the Mayors’ Monopoly game. It was really fun and creative. I also enjoyed the Order’s Karaoke and Jamie/stelladelnordxd’s Birthday Favorites collages.

Lighting Up
Hogwarts always looks incredibly beautiful all lit up for the holidays...though perhaps some of its students shouldn't be 'lighting up' in the 3rd floor corridor bathrooms.
Interhouse Quidditch????
Considering the near-bloodbaths resulting in the last couple of Quidditch games held at Hogwarts lately, word's reached this little birdie's ears that the Heads of Houses are either going to close down the season or introduce drastic measures. Could an interhouse tournament not be far from happening? You didn't hear it from here...
Mops Run Amok!
Looks like someone has been charming the mops again! Earlier this week, students had trouble getting down to the dungeons because the corridors were covered in soapy mops. They appeared to be trying to clean the floor but would get agitated when students walked by. Several children ended up in the hospital wing with bruises and upset stomachs.
