I hope you are all enjoying the last bit of summer before fall comes around. Here is what's been happening at sortedchallenge. Hold on tight because I have lots of results coming your way! Challenge 9 was all about making movie posters Harry Potter-style.
Ellie/erzsebet of Gryffindor coming in at 1st place.
Beth/prongsy of Gryffindor came in 2nd place, while Kristine/flipflop_diva of Hufflepuff came in 3rd place. Christa/dontjudgeme of Ravenclaw received the award for "most creative". Stop this way to check out all of the winning graphics.
Icons made a comeback with Challenge 10 where Gryffindor mopped up the points. Gryffindor's Steph/alwaysawkward and Ellie/erzsebet placed 1st and 2nd respectively. Third place was a tie between Michelle/shellzconlon of Gryffindor and Tiffany/growling of Slytherin. Finally, Jenna/jennashaped of Slytherin received the award for "best use of texture".
Challenge 11 was all about picspams and beautiful colouring.

To change things up, Challenge 12 challenged participants by having them create some phone wallpapers featuring some of our favourite villains or with fake backgrounds.

Hey there Flourish visitors,
+ The Oscar winning movie theme is running out this week, so make sure to check this list here if you deliver any tags related to those movies (quotes, stills or fan art) and get your extra point. And repeated images is still active as well, so go for the themed tag points people ;)
+ For all the stall owners from the Flourish Bazaar, go look at this post and make sure you deliver those tags before the end of August to get your points and make your customers happy! And also submit the points at the tally post before the deadline. It's about a week we have left, so let's get cracking!
+ Don't forget to vote for the Flourish Superlatives and consider signing up to help with the banner making here.
+ We sadly had to say goodbye to quite a few shops, and there are a bunch of open spots ready to be filled. Gryffindor has 2 spots, Hufflepuff has 3, Ravenclaw has 4 and Slytherin 1, so if you are interested in having a shop, just apply over here and start making people happy with tags :)
And now I have something extra special for the last issue of the term. I sat down with the wonderful Nikki/nowheretogo26 and Whitney/csichick_2 to chat about being Flourish Mods (in Nikki's case for, like... ever^^). I hope you enjoy it :)
Martine: So back in the day when you applied for the Flourish mod position, what motivated you to apply for exactly this one out of all the mod positions?
Whitney: This is my third term in HIH and I wanted to get more involved. As active as I am in Flourish - both in having a shop and doing A LOT of ordering - it seemed like a good fit.
Nikki:: Flourish is my favorite subcomm at HiH. Making graphics is my favorite hobby, and I love helping facilitate others being able to share their graphics too.
Martine: I can see that it's your favorite. I've been at HiH for almost 3 years now and I can't remember a term where you didn't mod Flourish. Is there something specific that makes you come back to apply?
Nikki:: Modding really keeps me super active, always checking the shops for updates. It gives me a reason to always be up-to-date on everyone's new tags... and inspires me to keep mine up to date, too.
Martine: How do you guys do that, by the way, keeping an eye on all the updates and deliveries? I can hardly keep an eye on my own shop sometimes XD
Nikki:: I track the comm, so I get an email every time there's a new post. That way I can make sure they're using the correct tags for the post and then update our spreadsheets accordingly.
Whitney: I track all the posts in the community to make sure I don't miss a post - though sometimes there's a backlog of Flourish posts in my inbox.
Martine: Those spreadsheets must be impressive! Do you have one for ideas for the monthly theme too or do you simply discuss what you could do and decide based on what has been done lately/in the past in general?
Whitney: We discuss that once it comes time for thinking about a new theme. Though I believe all of them this term so far were among the ones we suggested on our mod applications.
Nikki:: Whitney said it perfectly. We also take suggestions from the members, too, in hopes that themes they're excited about will generate lots of beautiful new tags :)
Martine: Any theme you have been really proud of this term so far?
Nikki:: I think the favorite characters theme got the shopkeepers really excited. There were so many fun new tags once people signed up with their favorites.
Whitney: I really enjoyed that theme, though I didn't end up making as many tags as I would have liked because life happened. Though I still have 10GB of CSI screencaps to work through.
Martine: Wow that is a lot of screencaps^^ Looking at all the different things you got to do as mods for the comm, is there a part you can pick that you like best?
Whitney: Even though it's tedious and I tend to do it in giant blocks instead of as updates come in, I do enjoy updating the directory. It lets me see all the new tags that people are making, which is something I didn't always pay attention to before.
Nikki:: One of the things I love most is something that Whitney hasn't gotten to do yet this term - the superlatives. I love being able to see everyone's hard work and creativity be rewarded by their peers and friends.
Martine: Yeah Superlatives are fun, I'm always excited when I get a nomination somewhere^^ I bet it's hard to pick the mod's choice out of all the shops that are around for a term.
Nikki:: It's incredibly hard! In the past, we've really wanted to spotlight shops that sometimes don't get the love they deserve.
Martine: That's great that you're looking out for your shopkeepers :) So besides your mod duties and looking at the comm in general, what do you like most about Flourish?
Nikki:: I love that there is something for everyone! If you love cats, someone has cat tags. If you love Disney princesses, someone has those tags. No matter what you love, there's someone who can make it for you.
Whitney: I like that it actively keeps me making graphics. Before I had a shop, I could easily go a month without opening Gimp at all. There's still some I can learn, but looking back at my older graphics, I've definitely improved.
Martine: Since Nikki just mentioned the fact that someone will make what you love into a tag, how different is it when you oversee Flourish at Hogsmeade or the stalls at the Flourish Bazaar when things work in somewhat other ways then usual and also people who don't have a shop (yet)?
Nikki:: There's always a bunch more questions than usual, but that's what Whitney and I are here for - making things as fun and easy for everyone, from beginners to veteran graphic makers. I like doing activities like Hogsmeade and the Bazaar because it gets fresh new faces involved who otherwise wouldn't participate at Flourish.
Whitney: With the Bazaar, we have to keep a lot closer eye on things because some people maxed out very quickly. But it's fun to see fresh exciting tags, especially with the Bazaar. I know I requested things that aren't currently in anyone's shop. Or in a couple cases, things that are only in my shop.
Martine: Do you have any advice for the fresh faces who might want to open a shop and are trying out the experience at the Bazaar right now or are thinking about trying it during Hogsmeade?
Whitney: If you're on the fence about opening a shop, definitely apply for Hogsmeade. It's pretty low-pressure and you don't need to have a ton of tags to offer. That's what I did, and I ended up applying for a shop shortly after.
Nikki:: It's okay to start small. A lot of Hogsmeade shopkeepers have been doing it for years so they've got dozens of tags every Hogsmeade weekend. But even a Hogsmeade shop with only 10 tags can be a fun way to experience the weekend a little more.
Martine: And any advice for those who are already shopkeepers and also the Flourish customers?
Nikki:: For Flourish customers, my advice is to check the Directory! You never know what fun things you can discover there.
Whitney: Definitely! I know when I put in updates, I always notice something I didn't see before.
Nikki:: Current shopkeepers, my advice would be to make tags of things you love. I always find my most creative tags are usually things I'm passionate about.
Whitney: I agree. That's where most of my inspiration comes from.
Martine: Already at the last question, which is the obligatory 'Do you think you'll apply for the position again next term' question XD
Whitney: I would like to, but I have to see what happens with my schedule. I'm currently applying for jobs, so it could be changing pretty soon.
Martine: What about you Nikki?
Nikki:: Of course, I am definitely planning to! I will help mod at Flourish as long as the people at HiH vote me in :)
Martine: Yay :) So now that we are at the end, thank you both for doing this interview! Any last words for the Prophet readers?
Whitney: I just want to say that I'm really enjoying modding Flourish and if anyone is thinking about applying for a shop but still unsure, give it a try!
Nikki:: Whitney is right - if you're even thinking about applying for a shop, just take the plunge! It's totally worth it.

There are 5 new animagi, courtesy of July's batch - Jennifer/nanerbear the Snowshoe Hare, Morgan/wizbey the Natterer’s Bat, Clara/nevarren the Atlantic Spotted Dolphin, Olivia/ohcaptain the Kea, and Ellie/erzsebet the Pembroke Welsh Corgi. Welcome :D I hope you're all settling comfortably into your new forms.
The August Batch, which again has 5 applications, so lots of points/knuts up for grabs, is currently accepting votes until August 28th, 11pm UTC. Go help your fellow HiH members find their spirit animals! If you've never voted before, you can find more information here, and you can consult unscreened votes on past applications. Make sure you check the hih_animagus profile to confirm your chosen animal isn't already taken!
The first August activity had members voting on fictional characters' animagus forms. Check out what people said and the results of the activity here. August's second activity is Disney Animal Stamping! Go submit an app and be stamped as Tiana from The Princess and The Frog, Abu from Aladdin, Simba from Lion King, Sebastian from The Little Mermaid, or Mushu from Mulan. Deadline is August 28th at 11pm UTC.
While having an animagus form isn't required to participate in Animagus activities, it's a good idea to check whether you are still registered if you haven't participated in awhile. If you'd like to reclaim an animagus form you had in the past, you'll need to comment here. If you'd like a new form, and haven't reapplied in the past six months, you'll need to leave a comment here saying why your form no longer fits you in order to get the go ahead to reapply. And if you've never applied before, what are you waiting for? Buy The Standard Book of Spells Vol 1-3 from Diagon Alley, then submit your application here!
