Summary:
Ever wonder how the Mirror of Erised knew what Lily and James Potter would look like aged? Let us take you back to the first Voldemort War, the lives, the deaths, the plans. Here is the untold story that leads to the life of Harry Potter, the destruction of a maniac, and a love so powerful that it was the driving point of the downfall of two very powerful Wizards.

To say that Dumbledore was more than a little shocked would be the understatement of the year, like saying that Voldemort had issues.

Speaking of the lunatic, Voldemort had been defeated not even six hours.

The battered crew that was a mix of The Order of the Phoenix and the DA was sitting around the table at number twelve. Dumbledore had just stood to speak when the door to the kitchen burst open and two figures ran in.

One of those figures was Sirius Black.

“Holly shitting Merlin Severus! The one time you and Lily screwed up! It just had to be this one time eh?”  A young woman beat her way into the room past Sirius and straight for Severus.

They all watched, fascinated, as she ran over to Snape, who, picked her up and swung her in a hug.

“It worked?” he finally asked.

“What is the meaning of this Severus?” Dumbledore found his voice.”

“Nice to see you again too Headmaster.” The woman smiled at the look on Albus’ face.

“I was under the impression that you were murdered Sasha.”

“Ya. You thought that a lot of us were murdered.”

“Lily?” Severus ignored Albus and hugged the girl even tighter.

“They need their wands. Left ‘em at Godric's Hollow.”

Dumbledore’s eyes flashed. Everyone ignored it however, as Severus kept his arm around this woman who was taking in the room.

Harry and Ron were currently passed out on the floor. Seeing the dead does that to a person.

Sirius clapped Severus on the back and hugged Remus before going to his godson.

Maybe, in order to understand how we ended in this part of the story, we should start from, not the beginning, the story of Albus’ childhood, what happened to Severus’ first wand and Lily’s odd birthmark would take more time than anyone would care to admit. Instead, we will take you to Lily, Severus’ and of course, the Marauder’s Sixth Year…

The Metaphorical Beginning.

I hate SEVERUS SNAPE!

Not only that, I hate Sirius-I am stupid-Black and his stupid best friend James…Stinking Potter!!!

Oh journal, I don’t really hate Sev. Slytherin has changed him. It sucks cause we can’t be friends as long as we are in different houses.

Lily broke off her rant and stuffed the diary back into her hiding spot, inside her box of Tampons. Any girls that borrowed some knew to leave the diary alone. They were good like that. In return of course, Lily ignored the fact that Jessica almost never slept in her own bed. Or that Alice stalked Frank Longbottom. Lily also turned a blind eye on Kira Nott’s smoking habit.

“LILY EVANS!” Kira entered dramatically, flinging herself on Lily’s neatly made bed.

“That is my name.”

“Snape refuses to leave from the front of the Tower until you go talk to him. He is even threatening to kidnap you when you leave for class tomorrow.”

Growling slightly Lily shoved up from her well worn spot on the floor and ran her hands through her now incredibly short hair. Kira’s eyes widened.

“What the Fuck did you do to your hair Lils?” Lily had kept her head hidden during dinner. She didn’t want anyone seeing it just yet.

“Cut it. Takes some of the pressure off my shoulders. I really hate this. I went the whole summer without taking to my best friend.”  To Lily’s horror, she began to cry in front of Kira. She couldn’t stop it either.

Kira jumped up and hugged her. Kira knew about the nature of Lily’s and Severus’ relationship. They were true friends. Kira hadn’t told Lilly yet but she clocked Severus for messing with Lily over the summer.

“I’ll go talk to him.” Lily’s eyes were blood shot as she tried clearing her head. She marched out of the dorm.

It always amused Kira that Lily never worried about her appearance around Severus. She could be dressed in a potato sack and Severus would still choose her over any other woman. Reaching under Lily’s mattress, she pulled out the latest trashy novel that they bought and read together. Lily kept it because she and Alice’s beds had been searched one too many times. Smokes and Longbottom’s knickers Kira mused as she turned to page 163 of ‘Lover’s Curse’ by A.P Lovegood.

“What do you want?” Lily kept her eyes peeled on the ground, determined not to look at him.

“Lily…” grasping her firmly by the shoulders, he sighed when she flinched and tried to keep looking away.

“What will it take for you to forgive me?”

“You! You were my best friend Sev!” she poked him hard in the chest. “YOU introduced me into this world and then you told me that I wasn’t wel…welcome in it. You told me it didn’t matter.” She choked out a sob but let him pull her into his arms and against the wall.

To anyone passing by, it would look decidedly sexual. Lily liked when he had her like this. She offered him no comfort in return, but she nuzzled into his neck to let him know what she was responding.

“Apparently, it matters in Slytherin. I freaked Lily-Frogs. I was just so fucking embarrassed.”

She snorted. “You haven’t called me that in years.”

He chuckled too. “I guess I haven’t. Lily…” he broke off as she drew her arms around his waist. He felt him run his hands through her hair and sighed sadly. “I did this to you.”

“It’ll grow back, just like our friendship?” it was a question and Severus knew that only he had the answer. He kissed the top of her head and her cheek. “You have my word.”

Lily kept her neck exposed and waited for Severus to give in. they had experimented over the summer before. They were each other’s first everything, kiss, touch, hell they lost their virginities to each other.

She sighed as he nipped at her neck, sliding his hands down to her waist, back up to the elastic of her bra and then sliding down slowly again.

“I really missed you Lily.” She smiled and kissed him hard on the lips. After they broke apart, she ruffled his hair and tore the top few buttons on his shirt. He looked at her in surprise. She laughed.

“You're gonna need an excuse with the snakes aren’t ya? Just say you were getting it on with a Hufflepuff or something.

“I wish that there was a better way to be friends Lils.”

“We’ll think of something Sev.” They kissed once more and he strode off into the darkness of the halls.

“Got sick of wanking to the thought of her?” Severus let out an exasperated breath as his twin sister Sasha moseyed up beside him.

“I don’t see how that is any of your business. And I do not ‘Wank’ thank you very much.”

“You just like to moan her name and grunt a lot. Just remember next time because the damn walls are thin at the mud hole.”

“I’ll keep that in mind if you remember that smoking is a deplorable habit.”

“Noted.”

Severus snorted and continued to walk down the corridors. Sasha, his twin sister and Hogwarts nosiest female pranced along beside him. They had never been close. They were too much alike, both blending into crows, living life without being seen. That and the fact that Sasha was a free spirited, dim witted… idiot who should not have been sorted into Slytherin in Severus’ opinion.

Mind you, he was in a bad mood when he came up with that assessment.

Lily bounced back into the room and sighed as she flopped onto her bed. Kira only just managed to get out of the way.

“I take it that you and Sevvie-poo made up?”

“Severus and I made up yes.”

Kira rolled her eyes, watching Lily haul out her journal out to update it.

Chapter Two: The first Death

Voldemort had been gaining followers for many a year now. His popular ‘pure blood is the only blood’ theory for the magical world and its inhabitants growing steadfast in the wake of an upsurge of muggleborns. Albus Dumbledore created the foundation ‘The Order of the Phoenix’ to protest and protect those that have less than “pure” blood.

Tom Riddle, the old face of Voldemort, was a handsome man that could talk his way out of a kiss from a hungry Dementor. He had gained a few followers now and it was his goal to finally start to take on the Ministry.

He decided to make his entry into the political world with a bang.

Riots, muggle killings and such were just not gathering enough attention.

Killing a muggleborn however, just might.

Killing a pureblood however, might be better.

It was Christmas.

The lights were lit.

The happy faces.

The girl, beat, raped, dead on her childhood bed with his symbol dancing merrily above her.

She opposed him.

Stood up for the half breeds and muggles.

She died for her beliefs.

How sad Voldemort thought as he idly read the front page of the Daily Prophet. On one side of the article had the face of a smiling, fifteen year old Kira Nott. On the other, a picture of her battered face, or what was left of it.

He didn’t kill her himself. He ordered it. Pity it was Nott’s daughter but he said that he was his follower and if his own kin opposed, well. You know what happened.

Lily sat on her bed at her parent’s house. She hadn’t moved since she read the cover of the morning paper that she had delivered. She vaguely thought that Tuney might have come in but didn’t remember what she said.

Kira was dead.

Petunia Evans had in fact said something. When Lily continued to stare off into space, she grabbed the paper, shuddered as the pictures moved and read the column. She remembered Kira. Just last summer she had come over for a sleepover. She was fascinated with everything in the house. Petunia tried to get Lily to move to no avail. So, pulling on her polka-dotted purple coat, she trudged out into the snow to get help.

Severus Snape was not expecting Tuney at his window. The special knock came and he opened it, his eyes widening when Tuney hopped expertly in. they were not the best of friends but she often came over with Lily to get away from her parents.

“What’s wrong?” he asked. He knew it had to be bad. She handed him the paper and he skimmed it. He flopped to the ground as his heart missed a few beats. Almost as soon as he realized he was on the ground, he hopped up to go see his sister. She would be in pain and he had to be there for her. Then he would go to Lily.

“Stay here.” He said and opened his door softly, poked his head out, no sign of his father so he slipped off to the next room where his sister was sleeping, passed out, by the smell of the alcohol. The Daily prophet lay crumpled on the ground. Knowing that she wouldn’t wake for a few more hours, he snuck back into his room where Petunia sat reading ‘Hogwarts: A History’

“How is she?”

Petunia looked up from the chapter ‘Headmasters and Headmistresses over the years.’ And watched him pull on what he called a coat.

“Staring off into space. I can’t get her to move. My dad has an old coat that you are taking as soon as we get back.”

Severus could tell she was trying to change the subject.

“Are you ok Tuney?”

“Lily is my concern at the moment.”

That prompted Severus to hurry, help her out his bedroom window and hold her hand while they made their way back to Chattingham court. Petunia liked that Severus knew how to comfort someone without asking them. She gripped his hand and he shifted, interlocking their fingers and pulling her closer. It was more a brotherly thing than anything.

Severus always liked walking through the front door. He and Sasha never got to at home. They could, but it usually resulted in their father seeing them and beating them for one thing or another. Their mother died just before their second year. Severus couldn’t help but feel sad even though she let her maniac husband beat them senseless.

Taking the stairs two at a time, he entered the room that Lily and Petunia shared. Lily was sitting on her bed crossed legged staring holes through Severus. He sat on the bed in front of her.

“Lily?”

“It’s started.” She said. Her lip was trembling hard and the tears were ready to some out in buckets. Severus hauled her into him and let her cry. She bawled, she cursed, she screamed. She even punched Severus in frustration but he held on. Her parents had come in. he supposed that Petunia had told them what had happened. He tried to wipe away the tears that were in his own eyes but the Evans’ still saw them. They patted him on the head as what Severus could only describe as affectionate.

“Take care of her” Jim Evans said before they left the room and shut the door.

It was dark before Lily had been reduced to a red faced, ball of sniffles. The first thing that she noticed was that someone had their arms around her. Sniffling, she could just smell the sent that she was so familiar with, Severus. When the hell had he shown up?

“Sev?” he voice was hoarse to her surprise.

“Lils?” he smiled down at her. He only smiled for her. That reassured her more than anything.

“I’ll be back in a sec ok?” he hopped up and slipped quietly out of the room, peering down the halls before he did so.  He came back with a glass of water.

“So a drink was your excuse to pee?” she said with her eyebrow raised. Severus sighed.

“I have given up on excuses. I do think that you need a drink though.”

She took a sip. The water made her throat feel so much better. She passed it to him and he took a drink before setting it on the table and sitting down, hauling her into his arms again.

Alice Petrellie was running. She had been running for hours now. Around the lake, along the edges of the forbidden forest and back. There were few students left for the holidays but Frank Longbottom happened to be one of them. He watched as his stalker ran around. If you watched her close enough, you could see the tears getting lost into the wind. Everyone had taken it hard. The teachers were all crying. Students in shock. Alice shook. The entire table went up in a puff of smoke and fire from Alice. She stood, watched it burn before running.

His previous anger at her for kissing him in the middle of charms was lost with her tears. He sighed and started to jog to catch up with her. They ran together for a while before he realized that she was matching his pace. He started to slow down bit by bit, letting her slow down as well. As the wind stopped blowing away her tears, they began to make their way down her face.

“Alice?” Frank hated to see any girl cry, even his stalker. He pulled her into a hug as she burst into tears. She fit him perfectly. Frank ran his hands up and down her back and rubbing circles randomly. As it started to pour outside Alice looked up. Her usual dopey look had vanished and replaced with one that made him shudder.

“Those fuckers are going to regret the day they tried to take over.” She turned and marched off.

Frank stood gaping for a few seconds before following her blindly into the castle. He felt the adrenalin rush through him at her words. They were going to pay.

Sirius Black sat in his room downing shot after shot, trying to block out the noises.

A Party.

They were celebrating the fact that she was dead.

Fuckers.

In his drunken haze, he gathered his belongings and put it in his trunk. His body was steady enough that he could haul his trunk onto his shoulder. He crept out the back door, only stopping to kick his mother’s ass of a house elf before trying his trunk to his broom and setting off into the night.

They were celebrating the fact that they had murdered one of his friends.

They were going to pay.

the notion of a potion.
