First, I am VERY SORRY for not commenting on this fic when it was first posted. I have never dropped the ball like this before and I am appalled at myself. I apologize profusely, kneeling in supplication.
I really want to thank you for this gift (I'm emailing this to you as well because I don't know if you'll see this post). It is short and sweet, but not sweet at all, and it packs a real punch with just how quickly and believably the conversation escalates into an out-and-out fight. What I appreciate most is (as well as being one of my favorite things about the H/D slash fandom) that both of them are right, to some extent. No one is the true bad guy here. Just different approaches and different points of view, and that, coupled with the two personalities at work here, makes for a very engaging "discussion". I can feel the interplay at work here, the specific give and take of THIS relationship. The fact that it's not as healthy as it could be, that it's realistic instead, that this argument will no doubt come up again and again, has no doubt come up before, and will not be resolved until Draco gives way in some fashion. There lies the real daring: it's definitely Draco who has to give ground here, because I feel like Harry will try to settle, while Draco will continue to gnash his teeth over it. But it just gives them fire, you know? It feels real, and it feels unavoidable, and it feels like they care deeply for each other, deeply enough to get into this heavy of an argument, to fight for their own beliefs, to not give way, and yet to be concerned about each other, and sorry for the things they say in the heat of anger. Sorry for the way it currently has to be.
Thank you again for this gift. I hope you can forgive the extreme, unbelievable lateness of my response. :(
Hey, just posting anonymously because I don't have an lj account anymore. Thanks so much for your comment! I'm really glad you enjoyed the story. No worries about the late reply; this just nudged me to make a comment on someone's blog post that I've been putting off for absolutely no reason for way too long, so I completely understand. ;) It was really kind of you to remember and take the effort, so thank you!
