Carrie made her awkward way to the stage and typed in a title.

"I'd like to sing somethin' if that's okay? Don't know if they still play this one. Wasn't that old 'fore I came here."

"Also, if the Sortin' Hat's here tonight? This might be a fine time f'r us t'sing that duet I promised you if you'd like."

Anya went over to Carrie as she left the stage. "Hi Carrie! I'm Anya, we met at your Sorting. How have you been? You have a very nice singing voice."

"Hi Anya. I've been good, thanks. I love singin' - such a simple thing, y'know? You can do it anywhere an' it's always a pleasure." She smiled.

"You're one of the Dead Girls Club heads, right? Is there gonna be another meetin'? I think we've had a few new people come through since the first one."

Anya smiled back. "Yes, I helped organize the Dead Girls Club. I haven't seen Emily in a while, but we were planning to have more meetings. We might even invite dead boys sometime. Have there been more dead girls? I haven't been to a Sorting in a while."

"Well, there's Dr. Frasier, she was a soldier an' came here from dyin' in battle, I'm sure she'd be in Ravenclaw. An' a nice lady name of Amanda who says she died 1200 years ago but came back an' kept on livin' - not quite sure how that works." Carrie smiled shyly. "It was fun. I'm kinda not used to havin' fun. Is it somethin' you get the hang of after a while?"

"That's right! I think I met both of them, actually. I'll have to send Emily an owl so we can plan the next meeting." She laughed. "It was fun. And yes, I think you'll get the hang of it eventually."

For once the Narrator shut up, listening to Carrie.

"You sound like you know about pain," Molly said. "Or at least something unhappy." No kidding, the Narrator added. "That was...that was...well, okay, we--I/i>--don't know what to say, but...thank you."

"Yeah." Carrie was still smiling and a little flushed from the performance. "My last school was - not a very good place for me. Not only did I not have friends, I was - Oh, but I think maybe all that's over now. Here's better. Much nicer folks here."

"They really are," Molly said, smiling. "The Narrator liked it too, and he doesn't like much of anything, so that's a big compliment."

"Waal, thank you both then," she said with a smile. "How 'bout you? I know you act, d'you sing too?"

"A little. I was thinking of hopping up there, once I've decided what I want to sing. I haven't sung karaoke in...almost twenty years." She paused, shaking her head. "God, I'm old."

No, you're middle-aged. Somehow, that's worse.
