There was a tree by the lake, well there were a fair few trees actually but one of these trees was not quite like the rest at that point. There was a husky pup happily chewing on something as she lay by the trunk. Though she wasn't alone, of course not she was being watched by her owner or rather her pet from one of the branches where he was sat. ( Read more... )

Jack was ambling down to the lake to play with his toy ships, when he noticed the puppy gamboling about under a tree. "Why, good afternoon to you, sir," he said cheerfully to the puppy, scratching it behind the ears (unaware that it was actually a female). Then he looked up and saw a fellow sitting in the tree, apparently keeping an eye on the puppy. He recognized the chap after a moment. "I say, you're Captain Harkness, ain't you?" he said. "I am Captain Aubrey - we were going to have a meeting of the Captain Jack club, before Captain Sparrow went missing. How goes it with you, sir? Is this your dog? A most handsome creature."

Jack now lounging in the tree gave another slightly more serious but none the less mock salute. "Yeah she is. Coyolxauhqui, er Key say hello." Key looked up. "And yeah that's me. Just having a Bad day." As if that explained it all, which oddly it did.

"Coyol... ah. A fine name, to be sure." Jack nodded agreeably. "I am sorry you seem so hipped, sir - may I inquire as to the nature of your disturbance? Perhaps I could be of some assistance." Jack was certainly willing to help out a fellow Captain Jack.

(("Hipped" is 19th-century slang for "depressed."))

"Ah, not really, it's complicated." To say the least. "Thanks though. So what brings you out here anyway?" Changing the subject to get it away from what he was bothered about.

"Oh, well, it is a fine day, and I thought I might sail my ships." Jack displayed one of the miniature ships he had made in Charms class. "I have no real ship to sail, so these must suffice, alas. Is there some reason you are in a tree, Captain Harkness?" Perhaps he was a naturalist, like Stephen.

"Ooh, very nice." Jack admired the ship. "It's comfortable..." Well not really, it was just a hide away. "So your ship..." Conversation steering away from him again, he hoped. "Tell me about her."

"Oh, well, I haven't got a ship of my own - I command whatever ship the Admiralty gives me. This one is the Leander - a 50-gun ship of the line. I was her lieutenant at the Battle of the Nile, in 1798." Jack held up the model so the other Jack could see it better. "Now, you told me that you have a ship that flies through the air, is that so?"

"Not anymore she went to pieces." Jack could live with this topic. "Got blown up by a German bomb during world war two. But she didn't just fly through the air, she was capable of space travel and time travel too."

"You have my sympathies, Captain," said Jack. "My last command was wrecked off the coast of Brittany. I should like to hear more of your adventures - you sound like you have had a most eventful life."
