Elwood Blues - The Blues Brothers

Sep 10, 2006 16:31

A man in his mid-twenties enters the hall, briefcase in hand, confused expression somewhat masked by a pair of sunglasses. Where the hell did the rest of the band go? He'll have to think about this. He's glad, at least, that he's got his briefcase and harmonica, and that there doesn't appear to be a force of cops waiting for him ( Read more... )

"Good evening, Mr. Blues! It sounds as though you, erm, relocated untended objects. Is that your primary occupation?"

"No, ah... No, Sir. That is, I might do such a thing from time to time, yeah, but I'm a musician."

"Ah! How delightful! I am a musician, myself when I am not sorting. What manner of music do you play?"

"Well, hey, I wouldn't have guessed that." Elwood blinks, interested if confused. "And I play the blues harp. Mostly blues, rhythm and blues, and soul."

"No? Does your hat not sing? Or at least talk with you?" The Hat remembers some of the music it heard on its vacation to the American Magic Kingdom in Florida several months ago and isn't sure if any of it fit those descriptions. "Hmmmmm, you wouldn't happen to know that song about the world being little, would you?"

"Naw, nothing of the sort." Elwood touches the brim of his hat and shrugs. "Useful, though. And dunno that I know of that particular song. Got a lot of others, if you're ever interested."

"Well, if you'd ever like it to sing or talk with you, I'd be happy to enchant it to do so. It would also be welcome to try out for my Quidditch team. And you'd be surprised what a nice companion an enchanted hat can make! But at least you do understand the usefulness of a good hat." The Hat isn't disappointed he doesn't know the small world song, as it found the tune rather annoying, anyway. "I would very much like to hear a sample of your music. That would make a very nice sorting bribe, in fact."

He smiles slightly. "I'm all right with my hat the way it is, so, ah, thanks, but no thanks." After a moment's consideration, he pulls out the harmonica. "My brother does most of the singing, but I can cover a few... How about 'Cell Block Number Nine?'" With that, he sings the first verse, adding a extended riff with the harmonica.

"I understand, but if you ever change your mind, I'd be delighted to take care of enchanting it for you." It bops along in time with the music, especially enjoying the harmonica part. "That was very nice, thank you! Now, we must get you sorted. Musicians are always useful, of course. And your driving ability is another point in the usefulness column. I suppose those of us who perform in front of others could be considered brave, as well. And you're certainly a resourceful man, especially when it comes to automobiles. I don't think Ravenclaw quite fits you, so it's Hufflepuff, Gryffindor and Ravenclaw. I'm actually rather inclined towards Hufflepuff for you, as you seem to be very loyal to this Jake you mention."

Who would've known that a talking hat could be so pleasant? Elwood shrugs again, faced with the thoughts of the houses. "Guess that's true... Jake and I're close, y'know. But, er, if I were to be, you know, put into this Hufflepuff, I'd be able to see someone is another house, right?" Because if Jake does happen to show up at any time, he won't be placed into Hufflepuff, not from what Elwood has heard. Elwood only wants to be safe about this, after all.

The hat gives him a big grin. "You're even loyal enough you wish to be sure you can continue to see your friend! Definitely a Hufflepuff. You may of course visit someone any another house any time you wish. In fact, I encourage inter-house friendships of all sorts. Rivalry should be left on the Quidditch pitch, after all!"

Genuinely relieved, Elwood nods. Good to know that he could always see and, when necessary, look after his brother. Assuming Jake ever shows up. "Glad to hear it. Since that's the case, guess I'm all right with whatever happens." He smiles again. "Thanks."

"Very good, sir! I shall sort you into Hufflepuff, then. And if you'd every like to perform a bit of music together sometime in the future, I'd be delighted to sing while you play!"
