Elwood Blues - The Blues Brothers

Sep 10, 2006 16:31

A man in his mid-twenties enters the hall, briefcase in hand, confused expression somewhat masked by a pair of sunglasses. Where the hell did the rest of the band go? He'll have to think about this. He's glad, at least, that he's got his briefcase and harmonica, and that there doesn't appear to be a force of cops waiting for him ( Read more... )

Marius bows a polite greeting. "Bonjour Monsieur. I take it you are musician? I am quite fond of harp music. Perhaps I could hear you play some time."

((ooc; Marius is from 1830 France. A harp, to him, is an actual harp- one of the big wooden things with lots of strings))

"I'm rather fond of Baroque," Marius replied, with a small smile. "I get very little chance to hear it, though. I've heard the new romantic movement is lovely."

Elwood blinks, caught off guard before he comprehends the man's meaning. "Oh, all right, ah... Guess I wasn't clear enough. I play the blues harp. The, ah, harmonica." He points to his briefcase. "Sorry to have caused you any confusion." He'd run into the mistake before, just hadn't ever been entirely clear about it. "I've heard some Baroque, but I can't say that it's my favorite." It had been heard at the Penguin's insistence, and though it hadn't been as bad as Jake had said, Elwood had never much gotten into it.

Marius had no idea what a harmonica was. "Oh," he said, slightly disappointed, but with utmost civility, "forgive my ignorance then. Might I entreat you to perform on your... ah... blues harp, Monsieur? I have never heard it."

He rubs the back of his neck, made uncomfortable by both the situation itself and the man's apparent disappoint. Hell, he wasn't about to resist this. Elwood opened his briefcase, displaying the harmonica with care. "This would be it." He looks at it for a moment before raising it to play a couple of notes, a riff, and then lowering his hand. "I mean, it ain't the same thing, or anything, but it's got its charm."

He shrugs. "Do you play?"

"It's very intersting," Marius agreed politely. "I've never heard anything like it. I'm afraid I don't play. I was encouraged to learn how to use the piano when I was younger, but I no longer have that skill. Which house would you like to be in, Monsieur?"

Elwood is somewhat surprised to find that the man has never heard a harmonica, but then, there were stranger things about. "Guess that's how it goes."

And there's the question of the house again. Elwood shrugs, placing the harmonica back into the briefcase. "Don't really know. I'm getting an idea of what's going on here, but I don't understand a lot of it."

Marius sighed. "It's a bit of a long story Monsieur. No one quite knows how they got here. But bienvenue to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. It's quite an odd school, where everyone can do magic. There are four houses, as seen on the form: Gryffindor, Slytherin, Hufflepuff, and Ravenclaw. Do any of them off the bat, appeal to you, Monsieur?

"The more I hear, the more I think I'd go with the one, er, Gryffindor. It's up to you, though, right?"

"As you wish, Monsieur. I hope you enjoy your stay." Marius bowed.
