It was a bit of a lazy morning for Sirius, and as a result, he had missed breakfast. Not having a lot on his plate (literally and otherwise!), he decided to take a bit of a stroll on down to the Great Hall in the hopes that the house-elves had left out some food.

As he passed the table with the rice balls, he stopped and stared at the sign for a moment. Then, looking up at Kyo, he said, "Hey, mate. I'm a bit confused by your sign. First off, I haven't a clue what or who an on-nigg-urr-ee is. Second, I don't understand why it wouldn't be free to bribe it. Usually, one doesn't have to pay for the privilege of bribing someone - just for the bribe itself. Mind if I have one of these riceballs, though? I'm terribly hungry."

Kyo looks up, confused.

"What? They're the bribe I made for being sorted. I couldn't remember who I talked to and who wanted one."

He gestures at the table carelessly "Help yourself."

"Oh, this is a Sorting bribe? Well, I don't recall having been at your Sorting, but I'm bloody starving, so thanks!" And with that, he grabbed a couple of balls and tossed them in his mouth. (Oh, Sirius, you and your balls! It's a shame that Mr Bucket wasn't there to witness the sight!)

"Mmmmm, mfff luddeee ooo!" Sirius said around his mouthful of balls. After swallowing, he repeated, "These are bloody good! What's inside them!" Then, realising he hadn't introduced himself to the bloke, he turned to Kyo and said, "Oh - I'm Sirius Black, by the way. Which house were you Sorted into, then?"

((lols at Mr Bucket reference XD))

"Kyo Sohma, Gryffindor. I think you just had the salmon ones? Did you take them from this side of the table?"

"Nice to meet you, Kyo. I'm sort of a Gryffindor, too, unofficially. Once was official, but not any more," Sirius said, extending his hand. "Yeah, I did take them from that side. Didn't realise there was fish inside them. What was it, smoked salmon?"

Kyo stands up and shakes Sirius' hand, his grip is strong.

"Yeah, smoked salmon. Those're my favourites. What d'you mean unofficial Gryffindor? I thought once you were sorted into a house, that's where you were."

Sirius shakes Kyo's hand firmly, although his grip is no match. He wonders if perhaps this bloke is related to Pippi Longstocking, who has incredible strength for a girl her age and size ( ... )

"Uh, no. I didn't make any raw fish ones...what d'you mean you ate rats?" Kyo's eyes glint with wicked happiness. "I hate rats!"

Then he thinks for a moment about Gryffindor. "It's alright I guess."

"Ah well, I'll have to make do with the cooked-fish ones," Sirius says as he grabs another rice ball and pops it into his mouth. "And I hate rats, too, mate. Or, at least, a certain rat. But when you're living outdoors for two years without even a wand, you've pretty much got no choice. Felt good to crunch up their bones whilst I thought of the rat I hate, though." Sirius's eyes grow dark for a moment.

He blinks and turns back to Kyo. "Just all right? Gryffindor is the best bloody house in the - well...I mean, my godson's in Slytherin, and technically so'm I, so...that counts for something, too. Hmmm...well, what would make it better for you?"

"You lived outdoors for two years? Were you training? I went training, but I didn't eat rats. That's how I learned to cook these things, my Master was terrible at it!"

Kyo stops short, realising he's talking too much and Sirius had asked him a question. "It's just a place, right? I mean, it's not bad but..."

"Training? No. More like running from soul-sucking monsters...and the Ministry of Magic...and the Muggle authorities. Wasn't by choice that I was living there, but, well, it's better than jail, right?" Sirius smiles wryly.

"What were you training for?" He cocks his head at Kyo. "It sounds to me like you'd rather be somewhere else than here...."

Kyo flinches a little at the mention of monsters but tries to pretend he didn't.

"I was training, martial arts. I want to get really strong so that I can defeat my cousin-" Kyo stops short, before he goes into much detail.

"Uh, somewhere else? I guess. Here's as good as anywhere, but I kinda wish someone was here."

Sirius nodded. "I can understand wanting to defeat your cousin. One of my cousins is a real piece of work, too, and thanks to her I ended up in America for over a year, and everyone seems to have assumed I was dead. If she weren't currently popcorn, I'd be on her like - " Sirius picked up an onigiri ball and motioned at Kyo with it " - white on rice." He popped the ball into his mouth. "What'd your cousin do to you?"

He started perusing the onigiri again. They really were good, and he was bloody starving. "Who d'you wish were here? An old girlfriend, perhaps?"

What did Kyo's cousin do to him? Well, that was a question and a half. Kyo thought for a moment before forming a reply.

"He always defeats me. If I could beat him just once, I would be accepted into my family forever. But some day...." Kyo gets that glint again, looks positively manic actually. Then he thinks of Tohru, and looks sad once more.

"No, not a girlfriend. Just a friend."

Sirius nods again. "My cousin and I never got along either. But, mate, let me tell you - family acceptance? Isn't worth the trouble. At least if your family is anything like mine. Biggest lot of wankers and tossers I've ever known."

The manic glint in Kyo's eyes doesn't worry or upset Sirius at all; in fact, his eyes have grown a bit dark as he talks about his family. "So it's martial arts you want to defeat him at? Well, magic is much more powerful than that - at least, from what I've seen of those Muggle kar-uh-tee films. Anything in particular you want to learn?"

Then, his eyes softening, he adds, "Well, maybe your friend will show up here after all. My best mate died two decades ago, and yet a few months he somehow found his way here. Best day of my life, really." Sirius's eyes now take on a very faraway look, and his mouth curves up in a slight smile.
