::Semi-Closed RP for DEATH and Nny::

Jul 15, 2006 00:01

Well, it was either keep Dib awake with his restlessness, go back to his personal quarters, or prowl the halls. Or go out for 'coffee'. But at least there's a sort of professional justification, so that's what Nny did, Rry scampering at his heels.

Restless. Wherever he was, he was always restless.

Hogwarts wasn't particularly quiet at night, what with all the... goings on all over, but it was certainly quieter than during the day, and considerably darker. It made Death a little more at home, especially when he was feeling a bit... not exactly homesick, perhaps, but maybe just preferring the familiar things.

Right now, for example, he was sitting in the dim Hufflepuff common room with two cups of tea. One was for him; the other, for the bizarre little device that was sitting on the table before him. It was wooden, and looked somewhat like a bird; every few seconds it would bob its head down, appear to drink some of the tea, and then bob upright again. The gray kitten Shadow played about Death's feet while he watched the little thing go back and forth.

On the way through the Hufflepuff common room, Rry let out a particularly cheerful yelp and dashed forward. Nny groaned when he saw her rushing toward a scampering kitten... even if her intentions were purely playful, she was a lot tougher than a housecat. He ran after her. "Damn it, Cherry..."

Then he noticed who the kitten was cozying up to.

"...oh."

Shadow yowled as Rry came for him and ducked back behind Death's robes, which certainly made the skeleton take notice. He looked up and spotted the devil, somewhat bemusedly, and then lifted his gaze to the boy running up behind her.

He bent down and gave Shadow a pat. THERE, THERE. HELLO, JOHNNY.

Nny scooped Rry up in his arms and smiled nervously. Oh, he didn't give a damn about it being DEATH that just greeted him, but he was also the fucking Sto Harlot bitch's grandfather, and that was a special sort of awkward.

"Um. Hello."

It was funny that while Death knew... well, nearly everything else that went on everywhere, he had no idea about this, at all. He actually was pretty much ignorant of a lot of what happened at Hogwarts; after all, his presence there, outside of being a student, was not really welcome.

NICE NIGHT FOR IT, he commented mildly, inclining his head towards the devil as he continued to stroke the nervous Shadow's fur.

"For what?" Nny tilted his head curiously. Maybe he should make a coffee run after all... "Damn it!" He yelped as Rry tried climbing his hair. "You've been picking up bad habits from Rama... I better keep you away from Spot!"

If he stayed in this position, bent nearly double, he realized continued conversation would be difficult. So he scooped Shadow up into his bony lap and straightened, clasping his hands around the little kitten.

FOR ANIMAL COMPANIONSHIP, PERHAPS. DON'T YOU THINK?

"Animal companionship is good," Nny said a bit wistfully. "Not as confusing."

AS WHAT? Death asked, puzzled. Not as confusing as... being alone? Not as confusing as... a bowl of soup?

"As. Well. People."

AH. Death's experience with either was... fairly limited, despite his impressive so-called lifespan. The thing was, he met plenty of people (and animals), but most of them didn't stick around long, and they tended to be rather upset. A bit out of his depth, he nodded. THEY DON'T TALK AS MUCH, he ventured.

"They don't. They don't lie."

NOT AS SUCH, NO... He was definitely feeling slightly nonplussed. On the one hand, between many many murders and one suicide, this was not exactly the first time Johnny and he had met. But Johnny wasn't the most straightforward mind to comprehend, and Death often had trouble understanding even fairly linear human thought.

"I don't like... I don't want to like people," Nny said, mostly to himself. His arms tightened around Rry until the little creature squeaked in protest.

Now he was totally at a loss. With no other ideas at hand, he gestured at the table, and a third cup of tea appeared. WOULD YOU CARE TO SIT? he offered.

Oh, why the hell not. Nny slouched into a chair, narrowing his eyes at the tea. "That better not be some kind of subtle dig."
