Closed RP: Mokuba

Finding fencing gear at Hogwarts had not exactly been easy -- actually, it had been kind of exasperating. Apparently wizard duels had less to do with swords and masks and more to do with blasting spells at each other. She'd wound up pacing the halls in frustration, and had in fact been on the verge of sending owls to Mokuba and Ryuuji when suddenly

"There's this room I found -- it had a ton of stuff! Cool, huh?" She grinned, straightening up to greet Mokuba with a wave. "I thought you wanted to fence, right? You don't use wooden swords with fencing... that's kendo. See how these bend?" She picked up a foil and bent the tip, which sprang back as soon as she let go.

"But that's what this stuff is for," she added, pointing with the foil towards the jackets and masks. "You put it on like this..." Tugging on her own jacket, she pointed out the fasteners.

"What's up?" Utena moved over to him as he struggled with the jacket. "Do you need a hand?" She laughed, but good-naturedly, pulling the fabric up over his shoulder. "These things are kind of tricky. Mine feels really strange, actually." Still, she couldn't resist ribbing him a little. "You're, what, 14 though?"

Utena grinned wide and playfully ruffled his hair. "Okay, okay... until then, I'll help you put your jacket on," she teased, laughing. He really was kind of small -- she was only 15, but she was definitely taller than he was.

"Anyway, the masks are to protect our faces, just in case..." She picked one up off the ground and awkwardly pulled it over her head. Her voice came out muffled from the other side of the screen, doubtful. "Like this... got it?" This felt really weird, though.

There was a moment's pause, before the girl admitted weakly, "I... yeah, it's kind of hard, huh? Maybe we should just take them off." She was having some trouble dealing with the mask. It didn't feel natural to her at all.

With a huff she pulled it off and tossed her long pink hair back, grinning. "We'll just be really careful, okay?"

"Yeah, totally," she agreed obliviously cheerfully. "It will be fine! I don't even use these jackets much... I think." She looked a little nervous, but determinedly kept smiling. "So, let's start now, okay?"

She shifted into a sort of awkward, clumsy fencing pose: feet well apart, one facing towards Mokuba, the other to the side, foil pointed at him, back hand up. The basics were right, and Mokuba probably wouldn't be able to tell the difference, but it was pretty bad. "So kind of like this... got it?"

Of course, Utena didn't know any better either. "That's pretty good." She smiled, picking up on the uncertainty in his voice. "Don't worry, you're doing just fine, Mokuba. Here, just raise your arm up a little more..." She gestured to him, demonstrating.

"So you want to try to..." She blinked, voice trailing off. What was it, again? She thought she knew, but she also recalled something about cutting something off... "....umm, you want to try to hit my jacket, okay?" she told him, sounding very unsure. "Just the thick part, not the arms..."

Utena stepped forward slightly, so that the tip of the foil hit her chest and bent slightly. "Just like this!" She winked. "That's the most important thing... the rest is all just trying to get to here, you know?"

Just to show him from the other side, she lifted the tip of her own foil and, very lightly, pushed it forward against Mokuba's jacket. "And the duel ends when one person gets the other." That was completely wrong, but it sounded right to her!

Utena startled in surprise as Mokuba knocked her foil back, but then nodded, approvingly -- he got the idea, it seemed. She was pleased, but when he spoke again, the smile that had begun to spread across her face faded quickly.

"Something to cut off..." she echoed him, murmuring, her eyes widening in surprise. She held up a hand to her chest, as if holding something there, and looked down. "Roses," she said, without knowing why.

Quickly, she shook her head and looked back up, trying to brush off the sudden rushing in her ears. "That's not a bad idea, but let's just do it this way, okay? Anyway, I'm pretty sure the idea is that you're supposed to hit hard enough to feel it..."
