At one that afternoon, Logan was waiting
as agreed by the south side of the lake. It had turned out to be a nice day - slightly chilly by Logan's standards, which mainly meant that the t-shirt he wore had long sleeves - with a few small clouds skating above in a light breeze, and the sun high and bright in the sky. Logan stood at the edge of the water, scuffing his foot in the mud, and remembering making paper boats and sailing them in the pool of his parents' house in LA with one of his nannies. A month or so later, he'd shown Duncan how to make the boats, but forgotten to fish them out once they grew waterlogged and sank. They'd clogged the pool, which meant that that nanny got fired and Logan earned himself yet another trip to his father's closet to pick out a belt to be used on him. Still, on the whole, it was a pleasant memory.
Behind him, a blanket and picnic basket waited, provided by the house elves. In addition to the cold chicken, sandwiches, salt-and-vinegar crisps, and cake, there were several glass bottles of Coke Logan had managed to arrange, and a fifth of rum to spike them with. He wasn't sure whether River was much of a drinker, though she'd had some firewhiskey
at the Three Broomsticks, but if there was even a chance they were going to talk about his life in Neptune he'd probably need a drink. Or eight. A pack of sparklers was wedged in at one side; he'd found them in the Hogsmeade joke shop's fireworks section, and had been unable to resist.
((They're out in public, so people can wander by as they wish, but it probably wouldn't be wise to interrupt at any moments o' angst.))
Edit: Major spoilers for "Veronica Mars" season one. Like, the central mystery. Watch out.
