Warded letter to Professor Gryffindor

Hello sir,

Congratulations on your appointment to the Defense Against the Dark Arts position. I have a question, and I hope you can assist me with this.

It's well known that you've spent the better part of the past millenia living inside the Sorting Hat. Given this, how can your knowledge of the Dark Arts be current enough to teach us students to defend against it? Having lived over five millenia myself, I'm all too aware of how quickly change can come. What works now may not work ten or a hundred years from now, let alone a millenia.

In short, sir, it would seem that in some ways you'd be a student in the subject just as we are as you have to re-learn Defense to yourself be current. That being said, why should I, or any of my house-mates for that matter, take your class? How can we trust that what you teach would still be of any use?

For the record, it would take just as much convincing to get me to take a class taught by Madame Ravenclaw, this isn't an issue of house loyalty.

Thank you for your time,

Methos
