A flock of bribes

Mar 15, 2006 23:44

A small flock of school owls bearing thickly-wrapped packages are sent from the owlry. Each contains a note lettered in large, stiff-looking handwriting. Each is warded.

Professor,

I send you my first attempt at the commission you set me. If it fails to satisfy, I would be happy to begin anew. I have enjoyed working on it very much.

In addition, sir, I find myself interested in joining your herbology class. If this is still possible despite the lateness of the year please let me know.

Regards,
Gimli

The package contains a chain of twisted gold. The cross affixed to the end is simple, fairly wide with the edges rounded slightly; near the centre, the outline is carved lightly, a cross within a cross.

Admiral,

I am pleased to send you a piece of jewellery like to the clasps we Dwarves often wear in our beads, adapted for your head tendrils. The clasp is quite simple; to fasten, apply pressure to the sides to snap it together; to release, likewise apply pressure to the clasp button release. If you find any difficulty, please contact me.

Regards,
Gimli

The package contains a large golden hoop inset with a ruby and has the elven rendering for 'Admiral' engraved on it.

Mr Otogi,

I send you my rendering of the design you showed me. I hope that it is of the right size, although I am informed that magic can address that problem if need be. Thank you again for the use of the diamonds.

Regards,
Gimli

The package contains an anklet of spun gold, woven rope-style, with ten carved red diamonds dangling from it at intervals. Each is set close enough to swing against one another while walking, but not so close as to appear crowded. The clasp is fashioned in such a way to suggest a knot.

My lady,

I send you a set of arm circlets and a Dwarven wrist-clasp, as discussed at my Sorting. I hope that you find them to your satisfaction.

Regards,
Gimli

The package contains two silver circlets for the upper-arms, fashioned in the likeness of coiling serpents. One has eyes of emerald, the other of ruby. Also, a silver wrist-clasp studded with with five diamonds. A snake is etched slithering around each stone.

Mr Teatime,

I send you my first attempts at the commission you set me at my Sorting. I hope you find one of them to your satisfaction; I understand that you were not entirely sure of what you were looking for. If neither are to your satisfaction, contact me and I would be pleased to make any amendments that you think she you would like.

Regards, Gimli

The package contains two necklaces. One has a delicate chain of fine, delicate silver hoops. Affixed to the end is an almost coin-shaped piece of silver etched with a runic device. The etching has been coloured black to make it more noticeable. The second chain (also of silver) is slightly thicker, more solid-looking, but not chunky. It is shorter, and the plain, unadorned emerald would sit at the base of the throat.

Mr Malfoy,

I am very pleased to send you the bribe you requested at my Sorting. I hope it lights up your day suits your tastes.

Regards, Gimli

The package contains two earrings, one in silver and one in gold. Both have a small but exquisite ruby in the centre, and although they seem quite plain, have no discernable flaw whatsoever.

Mr Yuan,

Firstly, I must extend my apologies if I have addressed this letter wrongly. I am afraid I was unable to catch your full name during our brief meeting, and the manners of address in this world are somewhat strange to me.

I enclose the bribe I promised at my Sorting. I understand that you hoped for something rather specific; if you wish me to change any detail of the commission, please contact me and I will be happy to begin anew.

Regards, Gimli

The package contains a circular brooch of white silver, rimmed with small but nearly-identical emeralds. In the centre, also carved from the white silver, is a serpent coiling itself into a shape not unlike a figure eight.

Mr Kaiba,

I send you the bribe I promised at my Sorting. I hope that it is to your satisfaction, and I confess that I enjoyed forging it very much. If you would like anything else carved I would be happy to do so.

Regards, Gimli

The package contains a small, delicate wrist-band of gold, etched with small carvings of the flowers of Lothlorien.

Doctor,

I send you the items you requested from me at my Sorting. I hope that they suit their purposes.

Regards, Gimli

The package contains a full set of surgical impliments forged of fine steel. They are slightly larger than normal but very, very sharp. The blade of each is carved with runic devices; the "handle" with geometric Dwarven patterns that might be found on an axe or warhammer.

((OOC: Phew! Sorry that took so long, folks, but I actually wanted to have a bit of a think about some of them. Might have been easier if I hadn't, though. I'm a bit knackered so apologies for stupid mistakes.))
