owl from Dr Maturin to Miss Ginny Weasley, warded

Dear Miss Weasley,

River tells me that I have sorely misjudged you, and for this I must apologize. It seems that cultural differences between my time and yours led me to misinterpret certain remarks that you made at your Sorting. This is unfortunate, and highly regrettable. If there is anything I can do to make amends for this, you have only to say the word and it will be yours. River helped me to select something of a small peace offering; she warns that you tend to consider perfumes a romantic gift, but I am sure under the circumstances there is no danger of your misinterpreting this as I gather she was quite candid with you about many private matters, and she thinks your young man may appreciate the scent. *attached is a 10 ml bottle of BPAL Katharina*

In any event, I owe you sincere thanks for warning River against Professor Voldemort. She does not see the dire threat his ambitions pose to someone of her abilities; you are in a unique position to convince her of it. I would rather she have nothing to do with him whatsoever, but as you likely know, there is no stopping her when she has set her mind to something.

Your humble servant,
Stephen Maturin.
