Hat Shore hosts the UNDER THE SEA dance for Valentine's Day (open to all school)
Hat Shore party planning had ended up falling mostly into the hands of a couple of contestants, along with set designer Jherek Carnelian. These 'couple' of contestants were actually the Shoggies and Beowulf, who'd squelched and shouted their way toward transforming Hat Shore into a strange Under The Sea experience.
And an experience it was! It had been easy to talk Jherek Carnelian into some assistance - in place of Yoda Boot Camp, there was now a spreading lagoon, its waters housing a vibrant coral reef. The artificially-created denizens of this reef were not inclined to stay there, however, and seemed as capable of using air to swim through as water, without ill effect. There were not any 'catfish' this time around, Jherek having learned his lesson in making fish-like cats from Yoda Boot Camp. Rather, a plethora of jewel-like, fantastical fish swam through the waters and air of the Hat Shore Dome. To further add to the theme, Jherek had created groves of seaweed like plants, which swayed gently as if moved by waves, despite the lack of surrounding water.
As for music, the Shoggies had formed a little barbershop quartet, who roamed about the grounds singing somewhat unseasonal-sounding songs about the Great Old Ones. For accompaniment, they'd collected a selection of percussion instruments from the music shed, tambourines, drums, bells, triangles, and even a sistrum they'd managed to dig up. During the course of the evening the Shoggies planned to shift in and out of the quartet, between enjoying the party themselves.
As for food, a magnificent Geatish repast had been laid out. In other words, a number of large beasts had been roasted upon huge skewers. There was also a sandwich table, courtesy of the Shoggies- this contained a pile of assorted meat of questionable origin, along with a smaller pile of bread. Jherek Carnelian had come through the banquet area as well, adding a number of delicacies from many different time periods - only some of which appeared any more edible than the Shoggies' "sandwich table". Others appeared perfectly fine, resembling normal foods, including some salads for those who found piles of meat distasteful. Most of the Jherek-created dishes did contain some element of seafood - one was definitely a tuna casserole.
Beowulf had devoted much of his attention to Caketown: the living room had been transformed into this marvelous and saccharine place. Cakes of all shapes and sizes were stacked upon every available surface, and, a wading pool filled with frosting filled the center of the room. An inflatable slide was arranged so that people could slide down it and land in the sugary mass of the pool. Colourful specks were intermixed with the frosting, which a close examination would reveal to be Swedish Fish of all colors, including black.
The Lonely Hearts Club had not been forgotten - the battle fog in the Harkonnen Dining Experience had been cranked up to full, and Jherek had tinted it pink for the evening. Quiet music was playing from somewhere, which resembled the score of a classic porno film. Soft pink and red lighting filled the air, and for the night the large elacca wood table had been transfigured into several two-person tables by Jherek. An enchanted bell floated in the middle of the room, and rang every eight minutes or so, a signal to those involved in the speed-dating process it was intended for should move along to the next prospect.
And so, on the night of Feb. 14th, Hat Shore's doors were opened to the whole of Hogwarts for the festivities.
