Michael Garibaldi ((B5, application, open rp))

Just five more minutes. He had five more minutes before his shift was over and he’d be able to retreat to his quarters with a hot pizza and 4 or 5 hours of uninterrupted sleep. Things were finally going his way.. which had him worried. Because when things went his way, it meant that something was gonna go wrong, something always went horribly, ( Read more... )

Delenn beamed at the sight of the latest applicant.

"Mr. Garibaldi! Welcome! It is so good to see you again." She bowed slightly.

He stared at her, confused. They were on a strange world, as far as he could guess, God knows how far away from Babylon 5, and she was as serene as ever.

Secretly, Garibaldi was sure that you could have clowns running in circles around Delenn while they were on fire and she would still remain calm and unflappable. “Um, again? We were in a meeting about five minutes ago in John’s office. Delenn, what the hell is going on? Where are we? Is this one of Draal’s weird projections?”

"Ahh. You are confused. This is natural." She tapped a fingertip to her chin. "Mr. Garibaldi. Do you remember how angry you were when Sinclair cut you out of a mission that involved time travel? I am afraid you are about to make up for - pardon the expression - lost time."

A frown crossed his features at the mention of Jeff Sinclair. He wasn't just angry at Jeff, he was hurt. His best friend had left him behind, without even giving him a chance to say goodbye.

Breathe in. Breathe out. The cryptic crap always drove him a little nuts.

"Yeah, I remember. But what do you mean? Did the station fall through one of those time travel.. things? Like the one that took Baylon 4?"

"That is the general idea, yes, but not the entire station. Just me, and later Ambassador Mollari - who is no longer here, now - and now you."

Delenn took a deep, steadying breath. "I am informed, fairly reliably, that we have landed on Earth, in the year 2010."

One step at a time.

He stared at her.

"Earth. We're on Earth.. in the past. This is probably gonna seem like an obvious question, but I'm goin for it anyway. Why? Are the Shadows tryin to keep us out of the way by sticking us back in time?"

Ok, it would make more sense for them to take Delenn rather than -him-.. but he had to start somewhere.

"I cannot be certain, of course, but I do not think so. As best I can tell the Shadows still sleep in this era. I was...taken...from a later moment in our future than you, I believe. A point at which it would gain the Shadows nothing to dispatch me in this way," she replied.

"More, in...local time, let us call it...some months have passed since my arrival. I have seen many, many more people appear in this room as we did - people from this time and land, from other times, other nations - other dimensions - all as bewildered as we."

She shook her head. "No answer to the great question of 'Why?' seems attainable. The only thing anyone is able to tell us for certain is that we are all meant to have the opportunity to study a discipline the people of this place and time call magic."

"So either we won or they kicked our asses so hard it's a moot point," he concluded. There was no point in asking just how the future panned out. Mimbari were notorious for keeping secrets.

"Yeah, I keep hearing about this magic. Are we talking real magic, or something along the lines of technomages?"

"I cannot be perfectly certain, of course. But I find no evidence of any kind of mechanism that could be mistaken for magic. If anything their 'magic' practices appear to be very, very old - perhaps even ancient," she said.

"It is possible this community could evolve into what we know as technomages. Some of the students I have seen are very attached to their personal information devices or music recordings, and they have experimented with powering them with magical energy. Perhaps that is where it starts...?" Delenn's voice trailed off as she pursued the thought.

Yep. His headache was getting worse. "So we were brought back in time to.. become technomages or some kind of magic users?"

He rubbed the back of his neck, a visible sign of his unease and one Delenn would likely recognize. "I can see why they'd want you here. But me?"
