For Whom the Bell Tolls (Open RP)

The halls were quiet when he made his way out of his room, his hair damp and hanging limp down his back, along his shoulders. His footsteps echoed along the halls, turned to quiet taps as he made his way into the closest courtyard and stood in the sun for a moment, tilting his head up to the sun. The light was warm on his face and chest, the breeze ( Read more... )

Teru froze in his tracks, eyes widening in horror, and hissed a word most people would have been surprised to hear him say. This couldn't be happening - bad enough that there was a new indestructible psychopath roaming the school, but Karasu was -

...gone. Deleted from the world. Or so he'd hoped. He hadn't quite realised how much he'd still believed that until now, feeling disappointment almost as sickening as fear.

It would be too late by now to get away without being seen, but he remembered Yukimura's training and he still carried wards. He flung them out in front of himself now, levitating them into a barrier. "Wingardium Leviosa!" And then, almost without a pause, "Petrificus Totalus!" praying to no one that he'd cast that in time. (He's fast. Faster than most humans can track...)

Dodging the petrifying spell was easy.

The wards, however, made his a little disappointed. He had wanted to sneak up on Teru. Wanted to see just how well he remembered him, see if his energy still lived under the human's skin. He seemed to suddenly appear before Mikami, as close to the wards and Mikami himself as he could get without actually causing himself too much pain. Sable hair settled behind him, still carrying momentum, along with the tails of his coat.

He placed his hands in his pockets. "Ah, you. I wonder, where did you get this courage from?" Kurama had been busy while Karasu had been away, obviously.

Damn it... Teru stepped backward, slowly, fighting the need to run. Karasu couldn't reach him, that was the important thing. "You never saw me at my best," he said, quietly - the more he lowered his voice, the less it would shake. He wasn't listening to himself, really, only hoping the words would provide a distraction. "Things have changed."

Karasu had to strain to hear a little, even with his demon hearing. His eyes narrowed a little, laughing at Mikami. "Oh?" he asked. "Have you been keeping your eyes open, waiting for my return? Or have you forgotten?"

"I haven't forgotten." He did his best to sound contemptuous, as though the memory was just a memory, easily ignored. As if he wasn't struggling not to blink, now Karasu had said that. "I thought your twisted mind had finally been deleted from this world. It's disappointing to see I was wrong."

The same instincts screaming at him to run were telling him he couldn't turn his back yet, even with the wards there. Something would go wrong if he looked away, he knew it, he'd let the barrier fall and if Karasu wasn't immobilised he'd be on Teru in a second and then... Focus, he told himself. He can't touch you, he doesn't have the right to, you are righteous and he is nothing. That would have been so much more convincing when he'd thought he was a god.

Karasu smiled behind his mask. It was a slow, pleased kind of smile. "It's not a wise idea to underestimate me, Teru," he purred. "It has happened in the past." Obviously, nothing had come of it.

He pulled a hand from his pocket, reached forward until he could feel the beginnings of the electrical burn the wards inspired. "You're still mine, you know. My prey. You haven't forgotten." His eyes narrowed a little further in their smile. "Can you still feel me under your skin?"

Teru flinched away, without thinking, and hated himself for it. He could still feel everything, pain and shock and the taste of his blood and how desperately he'd tried to believe that he'd suffered like this before, and come through it... Not yours. Never. I've belonged to one person in my life, and he was just the opposite of you.

"Don't call me Teru," he hissed. "Incarcerous!"
