"What are you making?" Coraline asked, looking curiously and a little warily at the various scrap covering the table. Warily, because the finished bantha's eyes unsettled her. They're just normal buttons, she reminded herself. Almost definitely. By her side, Berry the Acromantula chittered, wondering why they'd stopped walking.
Yoda could feel the girl's uneasiness, though not the cause of it. But he was familiar with uneasy children. He was the first one to allow generations of Jedi younglings to touch their first lightsaber, after all. "A bantha, this is," he said, making it trot across the table. "An animal from my home, it is meant to be. Much smaller and less smelly than the original, yes. Care to make one, would you?" He smiled encouragingly at both her and her pet.
"Okay," Coraline decided, helping Berry up onto a bench and sitting down beside her. Buttons aside, she liked the look of the bantha, like a cross between a cow and a mammoth, with a beard. And she could give it different eyes. She wasn't going to go through her whole life being scared of buttons. "Where do you come from?"
"From far away, yes. Different planets, perhaps a different time." He waved a gnarled hand negligently. "But here, now, is my home. Yoda am I. What names do you use?" He included Berry in his gaze, along with the girl.
"Very pleased to meet you, I am. Both of you." He eyed Berry with interest. Most of the pets that he had seen on Earth tended to be the furred and feathered variety. A large spider was a new and interesting change of pace. "Been here long, have you?"
"Would you mind?" Coraline asked, turning to Berry. She might not be able to answer yet, but that didn't mean she didn't understand, and the clicks she made in response sounded approving. "I think it's okay," Coraline told Yoda. "She's never bitten anybody. But be careful of her pincers anyway."
Yoda reached out one gnarled claw to Berry, slowly and at a level where the Acromantula could keep it firmly in sight. It was a good way to go about petting most creatures. He brushed one leg a few times before pulling his hand back. "Thank you," he told Berry.

"How wonderful it is to get a new friend as a gift. Even more special, can it make a holiday. May I pet her, or will she not appreciate it?"
