Jenks spent most of his time indoors or lurking in one of the greenhouses as the temperature began to drop outside. Pixies tended to hibernate during the winter if they couldn't find a warm place to live for the colder months, and in Scotland, that could mean he'd be out most of the damn year! He passed the sorting room, looking to convince some house elves to move his stump indoors when he saw Rihana's application.

"So that's your ship? Nice!" He zipped around her head like a demented little moth, his wings clattering. "Got any exotic honey or sugar in there?"
Shameless, really.

Rihana very nearly batted him out of the air before she caught herself. Must be some sort of djinn, she thought.

"Ah, honey?" Well, a bribe was a bribe, after all, and she kept a few pots of honey on board for her personal use. She liked her tea sweet enough to attract bees. "As a matter of fact, I do have a pot of honey from Mahil Hai I could spare. I could--um, would you mind, uh, staying in one place for a few seconds?" She was getting dizzy.

"Sorry," he said, moving to hover just in front of her. If it had been Rache or anyone else, he simply would have landed on an earring to finish their conversation.

"Not like I eat that much of it, but a little would be pretty tasty right about now. Keeps you warm and all that."
And gets him totally loaded.

"Aaaall right, then." It was a very odd day Rihana was having. The magic merchant had warned her it would be strange, but really, this was pressing the issue. "If one of those little helpers--ah, hello. I need a pot of honey from my cabin. Could you--oh!" The house elf disappeared with a pop before Rihana finished her sentence. A moment later, it was back with an unopened pot of honey in hand. "Thank you." The house elf scurried off, basking in the glow of a job well done.

Rihana turned back to the pixie. "All right, I believe this constitutes a bribe. May I have a vote?"

"Turn me!" he swore at the large pot of honey. It was enough to last him for years!

"Sure thing. Which House did you want to be sorted into? Has anyone explained how this works to you?"

"No, no one's explained so far. I was told I had to be voted into the school before I came here--long story, I won't bore you--but not about the houses. What do I need to know?"

Jenks looked longingly at the honey, but decided he'd do her a better service by explaning Hogwarts sober. Since most humans and even some Inderlanders preferred to talk while he was stationary, he found a bump in the stone wall and landed lightly on it.

"Ok, first thing to keep in mind, this place makes -no- sense. And when you think it does, something will happen to screw it all up. It's a magic school, but there aren't exactly regular classes, so most folks are left to their own devices."

He shifted to keep his footing, "The votes determine which house you're going to be in. Griffindor is for the brave hero-types, Ravenclaw for the clever, Slytherin for the sneaky, Hufflepuff for those that like to be useful. You'll be sorted by the Hat. Yes, it's a real hat that talks. Keep in mind he's also a bit nuts but as long as you're friendly, you should be ok."

"That's the short-short-Cliff Notes-version. Any other questions?"

Well, that was certainly . . . enlightening. Except that it raised more questions than it answered. No matter, though; she'd figure it out on her own. That was what she'd done her whole life, after all, and it had served her well thus far.

"Thanks for the information," was all she said. "Hmm, as for the Houses--I don't want to be a hero, I'm no scholar, and my dear husband used to tell me I'm about as subtle as a monsoon, so I believe that leaves Hufflepuff. Ambassador Delenn seemed to think that's where I belong as well, and she strikes me as one whose judgment can be trusted." She smiled a bit more warmly, appreciating the fact that he was sitting still, which she got the distinct feeling was an unnatural posture for him. "May I have your name? And are you one of the djinn? Not that I mean to pry."

Jenks laughed, a chiming sound, "Subtle as a monsoon! I like it! Reminds me of a friend who was about as subtle as a lead pipe across the face."

He sat crosslegged on the ledge, "Name's Jenks, I'm a pixie." His small brow furrowed, "What's a jin?" he asked, trying not to mangle the pronunciation too much.
