((Nidhogg appears with mod permission- his app will occur after this thread))

So, the first attempt had failed, but it was a spectacular failure. Never before had Stormbringer drank a soul yet left something behind. What that something was, was truly horrible- and also perplexing. The inverted sky above was clearly the aesthetic of Chaos- but yet, ( Read more... )

The serpent released Yggdrasil's long-tormented roots as he turned to regard his peculiar visitor, the luminescence of his amber eyes visible even in the frigid darkness of Niflheim. He began to languidly slither closer to the Melnibonean, and such was his length that the coils of his body were woven throughout the roots for quite a ways, disappearing into the foggy distance. When he was within several yards of Elric he raised himself up like a snake poised to strike, stretching his forelegs forward, wicked talons flexing-but at the last moment he refrained from snatching up his visitor, realising he quite lacked a physical body.

Ah. A sorcerer's trick. That was cheating"The living do not belong here," Nidhögg replied, his rumbling voice carrying an eerie resonance, as though several voices were speaking as one. His was an ancient language, a tongue no longer spoken, if it ever was by mortals-but just as he possessed an inherent understanding of the reptilian tongue, so too would Elric understand him, for a thread of his speech ( ... )

((I wish I knew how to make the nice little umlaut's in Nidhogg's name! Sorry about my cluelessness.))Elric stood without fear as Nidhogg slithered towards him, his body appearing as tangled as the maze of roots that had lead him into this strange and misty underworld. Although his shape was extremely similar to the Melnibonean dragons, he was still vaster, and the mist and unusual perspectives of astral vision caused the serpent to appear vastly immense and impressive to the albino. Even when he raised himself as if he would strike, Elric did not flinch. He was here to make a pact with this being, and, one of the foremost necessities was proving one's own strength and capacities. And what strength Elric inherently lacked in body due to his deficient blood, he made up for with his mind. And Stormbringer, although the sword would not avail him any here ( ... )

((No worries. If my computer weren't set up to switch between several languages at a keystroke, I probably wouldn't bother with it myself. XD Copy/paste should also work, just FYI.))

Nidhögg had lost interest halfway through Elric's speech, and had turned, intending to return to tearing Yggdrasil's roots, as he'd been doing for aeons. What should it matter to him if the dragons of Elric's world had once been counted as his people's kin? He certainly wasn't counted as kin to any humans, elves, dwarves, and least of all gods; his kind were treated as abhorrent monstrosities by all other beings. Let this unwelcome visitor rot with the rest of them. Only he, Nidhögg, would remain, at the end of the world.

It was the Actorios that drew his attention back and aroused his curiosity. As he peered down at it, he beheld a swirling form within its depths according to the wiki, kick the mun if that's wrong, the meaning of which was indeed largely lost on him, but he could very easily perceive its power. Perhaps this Elric of Melnibone was not ( ... )

The Actorios was indeed a strange a relic, and powerful indeed. It had been passed down for countless generations, and was tied to the power of Melnibone. Once, Elric had actually managed to lose it to some thieves, and not even really spectacular ones, which was what had lead to him slaughtering the actual Chekalakh on his own plane. It was not a requirement, for his own powers, with or without the ring, were great- but, the ring did enhance his powers to compel many sorts of entities ( ... )
