Nny's immediate mental assessment was 'big and dumb'. His answer to the Hufflepuff question, though... It was hard not to laugh.

"Filling Heaven and Hell? Reeeaaaally?"

Scout was more of a runt, or a scrawny little shit, depending on your vocabulary. The other part of Nny's assesment was spot on.

"You better believe it. Centipedes don't have enough fingers and toes to keep count of all the dead people."

"And this defines you? Makes you useful? Do you consider it a 'benefit to humanity'?"

What was with people lately?

He stopped moving long enough to give that last question the consideration it deserved, which was about two seconds.

"Naw, I'd say it kinda sucks for humanity."

Then he was off. "But man, you wanna know what defines me? My batting average. I got a freakin' sweet record. Look at this. Just look at this!" He stepped away from Nny to swing his bat a few times. "It doesn't get any better than that."

He'd used baseball bats in his time, of course. Not as sturdy as a lead pipe, but still a solid blunt weapon. But to actually use it to play baseball?

"An athlete."

"Damn straight," he said, missing the intent. "They don't want me playing for them, I'm so good. I'd make everyone look bad."

They being the Major League, Minor League, and every community league in Massachusetts.

"Not everyone can nail a moron between the eyes when he's standin' in deep center field. I got skills."
