owl to Coraline

CORALINE THE GREAT

I BID YOU WEAR THIS HELM WITH PRIDE IN YOUR QUEST TO KEEP GRYFFINDOR FREE OF MONSTER OPPRESSION!

BEOWULF

The owl has a little parcel rolled up and tied with a ribbon. When unrolled, this proves to be a little knit Viking hat. The attached yarn pigtails had been tucked inside the hat so the owl wouldn't pull them off.

Coraline wasn't very good at writing thank you letters, but she thought it was important to make the effort.

Dear Beowulf,

Thank you for the hat. It fits very well. I like the pigtails.

Best wishes,
Coraline Jones

A few days later, after an eventful compy conversation with Mikami, Beowulf owled his new deputy again. This time, the owl was carrying a sack of granola, unlabeled, homemade by the house-elves.

CORALINE THE GREAT

I HAVE LEARNED A MAN WITH BEAUTIFUL HAIR HAS BEEN FORCED INTO A CONSPIRACY WITH SEVERAL MONSTERS OF HOGWARTS. THIS MAN WILL TELL PEOPLE HE IS FINE AND THAT HE DOES NOT KNOW THE MONSTERS, BUT HE SAYS IT ONLY BECAUSE THEY MAKE HIM SAY IT. YOU WILL KNOW HE IS IN TRUE PERIL BY THE MADNESS IN HIS EYES AND BY HIS NERVOUS MANNER.

ULTIMATELY WE MUST RESCUE HIM. UNTIL WE CAN FREE HIM BY COAXING OR BY FORCE, WE MUST DO ALL WE CAN TO SUSTAIN HIM IN HIS TIME OF PERIL. TAKE THIS WHOLESOME FOOD CALLED GRANOLA WITH YOU WHEREVER YOU GO. YOU MAY EAT SOME OF IT BUT IF YOU DO, MAKE SURE THE HOUSE-ELVES REPLENISH YOUR STORES! FOR THE REASON YOU CARRY THE GRANOLA IS THAT YOU MAY GIVE IT TO THIS MAN WHEN YOU FIND HIM. SOME CALL HIM 'TERU MIKAMI'. HIS TRUE NAME IS SACK JOE.

Her past experiences being what they were, Coraline didn't see anything out of place about any of this, even the granola.

Dear Beowulf,

I'll look for him. Who are the monsters we're rescuing him from?

Beowulf's speculations ranged far indeed ...

CORALINE THE GREAT

THE MONSTERS ARE SECRETIVE. THERE COULD BE MONSTERS WHO DO NOT SHOW THEIR FACES. I BELIEVE THAT THE MONSTER CALLED PYARAY, WHO LIVES IN THE LAKE, IS SOMEHOW INVOLVED. IT MAY BE ENEMIES OF PYARAY WHO ARE JEALOUS OF HIS FRIENDSHIP WITH SACK JOE. WE CANNOT KNOW. WE MUST LEARN MORE, AND WE MUST USE GRANOLA TO OUR BEST ADVANTAGE.
