The question of 'a good time for what' was a ridiculous one; L had been very insistent on the topic for a while now. While his return note was not enthusiastic, it was prompt.
Then, in the floo room. was the body of the reply.
L was waiting in the room, dressed normally in a long sleeved white tee shirt and jeans about four sizes too large. He had shoes on that had seen better days long before. His hands were in his pockets as he stood in the middle of the room, facing the door.
L frowned slightly. "While I do not want you acting prior to being fully comfortable," he began, "preparation is vital to success and safety is not always something that is obvious."
A chewed his lip. He wouldn't admit it to anyone except, perhaps, River, but the prospect of actually needing such things was an exciting one, daunting as it may be.
"No, you, you're right, it is best to be prepared."
From his pocket, L withdrew a wallet, handing it over to A. Within was a fake ID and some Muggle money. He had one himself that named him 'George O'Dowd' for the duration of the trip. He was also of the opinion that Matt's grasp on sanity was shaky, given his preferences during their research.
He took the wallet, but blinked a little at the contents. He knew money wa required, yes, but was he going to have to show identification on this trip? Oh dear.
"I, you, I, you know I, I am not... not at ease with this, but thank you."
A wasn't entirely sure whether L was referring to the first time buying condoms or the first time needing them, but either was enough to make him blush vividly.
"I, it, it's all strange. That I, that, well, yes."
L nodded and then decided the less said, the better. He turned to the fireplaces. "We are going to Cardiff today," he said. They needed a city and that was one Matt deemed safe for them to travel to.
A nodded. "Cardiff is the capital, largest city and most populous county of Wales. The city is Wales' chief commercial centre, the base for many national cultural and sporting institutions, the Welsh national media, and the seat of the National Assembly for Wales. According to recent estimates, the population of the unitary authority area is 321,000," he recited, then cut himself off sheepishly. "It, well, it is a large city and it will be easy to find, ah, what we are looking for." Without running into anyone A had met, as they would be likely to in the village.
"Correct," L said, picking up some of the floo powder. "Research indicates things like this are less awkward with strangers, buying items," he said before tossing the powder in the fire and stepping through to Cardiff.
Clearly L's thoughts were along the same line as A's own. This was strangely heartening. If L found such things awkward, then it wasn't so bad that A did as well. He followed L through the floo to Cardiff.
L had stepped to the side of the fireplace. It was a more modern looking building, by wizarding standards. That is, it favored the late 19th century in achetecture, wooden beams across the ceiling, panneled walls of the Tudor style. To the left, tables that promised food and tea, to the right, the street and the city, glimpses of cars showing through the curtained windows.
L looked over his shoulder at A. "No, This location is near where we need to be." He shoved the door open, almost hitting someone as they were coming in. Across the street and down a couple of doors was the shop he intended as their destination. The front of it blended in with the rest of the street, save for the maniquins in the windows wearing lingere.
Now is fine. I am not busy.
