"What kind of name is Coraline?"

This time she did jump, a little, even though she'd been trying very hard not to. The - whatever it was - was alarming, that was all, being so big and spiky.

She recovered, folding her arms and frowning up at it. "My name."

[ringo_raver]

"Well, it's a silly name!"

[braveexplorer]

"What's your name, then?"

[ringo_raver]

"I'm Ryuk. I take it back. Coraline's silly, but it's not as silly as Light." BURN!

[braveexplorer]

"Ryuk is silly too. It sounds like a cough." This wasn't a very mature thing to say, but he'd started it. "You know someone called Light?"

[ringo_raver]

"Yep! He was the one that found my Death Note. He decided to try to become God with it."

[braveexplorer]

"...what's a death note?" She might have backed away a little.

[ringo_raver]

"It's this." Ryuk pointed to his Death Note. "You write a person's name in it, and he'll die."

[braveexplorer]

Coraline's eyes went very wide, and she backed away a little more. "You can kill people just by writing?" Maybe she shouldn't have signed the form after all.

"Yep!" Ryuk pulled out an apple.

"I have a middle name, too," Coraline informed him, although she actually didn't.

[ringo_raver]

"I don't need it though. Just the first and last name. Oh, and your face. But I don't need to write your name. Besides, you're amusing."

[braveexplorer]

"No, I'm not," Coraline said, a little too quickly. She tried the grown up voice again. "I have no intention of amusing you. I'd like to go home now."

[ringo_raver]

"Well, you're stuck here. For how long, I don't know. And I don't want to vote Squib, you amuse me."

"What does Squib mean?" It sounded ominous, but from the context it might also be a way out.
