The Photojournalist bent down, careful to keep the cigarette extended over his head, as far away from the talking flower (it looked like a flower?) as was possible. "Cool it, cool it. Hey, come on, you don't have to go anywhere near the fire, all right? Man, I don't want to set you on fire, or anything. You're too perky. Ha ha, you're all colorful and bright, why'd I want to go and do a thing like that?"

"Awww, hell no, little flower! You're great! See?" He stepped back, well away from the flower, set the cigarette on the floor, and stepped on it. "See? No fire here, it's all right!"

He threw up his arms. "YEAH!" Lowering his arms, he moved so that he could be more on level with the flower's eyes (hey, flowers had to see too, right?). "So what's your name?"

"Oh, ah... I take pictures and write articles. For magazines or whatever, you know? And I will take pictures of anything and everything, but for the real stories, I sort of travel all over, get to check out some really whacked out shit. It's great. Hey!" He hesitated momentarily, wondering whether cameras were as bad as fire, then decided that cameras couldn't hurt. Hell, they were probably good for flowers, like the sun. "Can I take your picture? I've never seen a talking flower before and, ah, like I said, you're a real pretty talking flower."

He laughed, not unkindly. "No, no. It's just... See, I hold this up... and there!" He lowered the camera, watching with some concern; maybe cameras did make flowers jumpy, how would he know? "See? It's not so bad."
