Ryuk didn't actually say anything, just leered at her while eating an apple.

"What do you want?" Hermione snapped, fighting an urge to reach for her wand.

[ringo_raver]

"It's so amusing to see a frustrated human."

[curlybrain]

"You're... some kind of Dark Creature I haven't encountered in my studies, then," said Hermione, now seriously reaching for her wand, since that had been more of a statement than a question.

[ringo_raver]

"Mmmm...maybe. I'm a shinigami. I'm Ryuk." Ryuk waved the hand with his apple.

[curlybrain]

"What's a shinigami?" Hermione wanted to know. She was inclined to hex first and ask questions later, but she was trying very hard to keep her temper in check.

[ringo_raver]

"In English, a god of death." Chomp. "I like apples."

[curlybrain]

Hermione's wand was out. She didn't know if Ryuk was responsible for Hogwarts being what it was, but she needed a convenient scapegoat, and here one was.

A quick wave of her wand and a phrase of muttered Latin and Ryuk was now sporting an apple where his nose should have been.

"Hey! I didn't even kill your son, what...ooh, apple." Ryuk clawed at his nose, trying to pry it off to eat it.

[curlybrain]

"Well, I'm sure you killed somebody's son," snapped Hermione, turning away.

Ryuk had clearly made an impression. The hex could easily be broken, but in the meantime, he would... have an apple on his face and Hermione would feel slightly better.

"Oh, sure. Got hexed for that too. But I warned him." He was still trying to get the apple.
